Don't kill me--Pleading ignorance on shields

A gift from Charlie,my all time favourite shield. Thanks again Charlie, I smile every time I look at the knife, which is often.

Best regards

Robin

Myself, I like a well designed shield, I'm not too fond of the newer case ones, I really like the (Case) older oval ones the best.

I can take a shield or leave it, a really nice shield like this one can really set off the looks of a knife.

(not my picture but I do own the knife)

Here's a cloud, I think....

That shield really does take that knife in particular to another level. Not sure if its the ebony or the lines in the knife but dang, does it look classy.....

It's actually African black wood, and it has caused me a dilemma, it has actually became my first "safe queen" I just can't make myself carry it....

Either way, beauty of a knife. You sir have much more self control than I would if I were the owner.

Wow, Robin, this is gorgeous, truly a work of ART you have there!
Yes, I am jealous!
Yes, I am a cat person ;)

And I like shields in general...

Cheers,

Thanks Nalon, It is quite an amazing knife with some very nice refinements. The two secondary blades are scalpels and razor sharp. The Cat shield is the best.

I have quite a few traditional knives, a fair amount even have the little shields of whatever type on them. I have noticed a lot of custom makers on their newly made knives put some sort of shield on their traditional styled knives. My question is: What is the significance of these little emblems or whatever is the proper name for them? Either now or in the past.

My first post in this forum--don't be super harsh.

You got a lot of play with this thread and that is good for a newbie. I would say however that you might want to consider using the search function in the future. Nowhere near enough folk use it prior to starting threads. It would have yielded many previous threads concerning this topic, and yet here I am contributing! Not trying to be snarky although it may seem that way… Welcome!

I will contribute this for your shield interest, should cover it:

"Price Guide to Romance of Knife Collecting (1978 Edition) - Mrs. Dewey P. (Lavona) Ferguson. Pages and pages of shields.

In this forum there are no "newbies". There are only folks that like traditional knives.

If you like traditional patterns, you're in, no matter whether you got one post, 2,000 posts, 16,000 posts, or 73,000 posts. (Esav Benyamin sometimes hangs out with us.)
