Don't laugh! Forge fun pics!

What a beautiful knife, Yvsa. More pix please, when you can. Check out the balance!

Yvsa, looking at my knife and looking at yours makes me want to cry. That knife is gorgeous! That is the general effect I am going for. I will try and borrow my friend's camera and take some pix.

When I 1st started out I was just like anyone else with no knowledge of what I was doing.
It took me an awfully long time to figure out something really simple...... "What one lacks in skill and knowledge can be made up with extreme care and patience."
Now y'all get what I learned for free.;)

I used to not be able to cut a board straight for any kind of woodwork, but when I moved into this little house I knew I would never be able to afford for someone else to do what I wanted done.
With a great deal of care and patience I tore out the existing kitchen cabinets and made my own built ins. And I tore the old ones out in about 20 minutes. I would defy anyone to try and take the ones I built out in 6 hours.:)
And if the did get them out the end result on the upper cabinets would be individual cabinets ready to fit in another kitchen if one wanted to.

The same goes for knives or whatever it is that one wants to do. You have to do some studying to get yourself informed about where and how to start and then do it.
Your 1st one may look like the dickens, but the lessons you learn from it will be invaluable in doing the next, but I'm betting the 1st on will be pretty dayumed close to what you
want.
My bottom kitchen cabinets although well built and sturdy aren't near what the top ones are, but one can't tell by
looking.:)
I keep harping about the Shop Talk Forum, but I'm telling you that if you want to learn how to make knives that's the place to start. and why I say anyone can do it.
And they can if they want it bad enough.
Just remember what I gave y'all for free.
That will help you in anything you want to try and tackle and you will succeed and sweetly too.
It's dayumed sure worth the effort it takes!!!!:D

After all how are you ever gonna be able to get a knife you want exactly unless you make it yourself.
You just have to know what you really want and how bad you want it.:)

Yvsa! Great pictures! Man, I go away to work for the day and come home, play with the kids and work on knives and then when I get the chance to turn the computer on, what a show! What is this? Are you guys all retired or something!:D

Hey what is this! My wife didn't log out! Disregard the small grey fox behind the curtains. (That was a sneaky trick!:D)

You did a great job, Yvsa, on those khukuri blades and the handle is superb! Did you harden and temper them yourself or did Kumar do that also before it was sent to you?

Yvsa is right, ShopTalk is my usual hang out, until I developed the interest in khukuris, that is. I have learned (and shared things I have learned!) so much there. Knifemakers in general are some of the most willing people to share the ins and outs of their craft and getting tips from some of the top makers in the world has saved me countless hours that otherwise would have been spent in trial and error. I still do that myself but ShopTalk is a resource that I couldn't put a value on! I've been making knives for nearly two years now and still consider myself a raw beginner. I wish I had started 15 years ago, but you know what they say about wishes!:D

Hey Gary thanks for the drawing of the spring fuller, I hadn't thought to make a square one yet. I have a spring fuller made from 1/2" round 52100 stock but I haven't gotten around to welding it to some square stock that will fit into my hardy hole. For this khukuri I used the handles of an old pair of tongs of mine and it didn't do such a hot job. Probably because I was holding the tongs in one hand, the hammer in the other hand and the blade stock between my legs!

I probably won't get a chance to work on the khukuri until I get back from vacation next week ( I'm taking the wife and kids to Disney world). Right now I am trying to finish up a friction folder that I have to get in the mail by this Saturday. If anyone is interested here is a picture of it:

It's no khukuri but Yvsa might like it because of the "hammer dingy" finish!:D

Guy, I was reading through this thread and all at once small grey fox pipes up. I thought , Oh a new forumite. But he seemed to know everyone and what was going on then I saw your name. I like your new name, fits right in. You're welcome about the fuller. It gives you that third hand that seems to be missing so much of the time.
Oh and Guy about Yvsa, Walosi and Uncle they're all independently wealthy retired gentlemen, heirs from the Nepal Laha fortune who have lots of time to buy, sell and make kuks along with their global hopping of exotic ports of call.

Yvsa, You did a really outstanding job on your Khukuri. She is beautiful. Like one of Rusty's raven haired beauties. You've inspired me to stop procrastinating and make one. I haven't made any knives for too long and keep telling myself to do one, now I will.

Hey Gary, that's not a new name, Small Grey Fox is my wife's account, I forgot to log her out before I posted. I'm too used to leaving my account logged in! I'm going to have to really check before I go posting things, I could get her in hot water!:D (And vice versa!)
