Yeah! This is going to be my Old Yankee - Hillbilly mentality coming to the surface, and whether you argee with me or not, I'll give you my thoughts on this years presidential election, and maybe you'll find it amusing.

In a nutshell, I'll say that Bush sux, but I think Kerry would be worse. Man, he is a real loser. To top it all off, he had to go and choose that silly pretty-boy to be his vice-president running mate. Its obvious, ever since the Nixon/Kennedy election that the people go for the better-looking candidate. Its true. Seems to me there was some specific studies into that phenom a while back.

But GW ain't no good neither. His bumbling bs and bravado-filled foreign policy hasn't gotten us anywhere. I'm sure the people working for defense contractors could'nt be happier, but a lot of our sons and daughters are gone now because of rash white house decisions. Think about it. :p

I consider myself a conservative. I'd like to think I'm republican, but dang it all if I'm not super happy with Bush either. The more-intelligent liberals make a very convincing case against GW's follies, and I tend to agree with many of them, but dang! We are faced with a LESSER OF TWO EVILS decision this year. Hahaha! That's something you'll never hear on the TV.

So that's why I say that Bush is crap, but a better piece of crap than Kerry, who is completely crap. So let's not worry about fixing something that aint broke. We aren't going to get some wonderful rejuvenation of our welfare and social infrastructure overnight if Kerry is elected, but neither will we get those things if GW gets another term.

I guess the thing that scares me most about Kerry is this:

Jeff ,Iagree with your analysis but it's time you got back to blade making !

It would be nice if we had about 10 choices for Prez each election time. Vote for what the candidate promises to do. If they dont deliver what they promise. They never get to run again and no lifetime of benefits payed for by the working class.
Going to a system were a vote actually means a vote would be nice also.

This will sure be an easy term for whoever wins. They are so busy vomiting BS that they wont have to live up to too many campaign promises.

I fear for the future of America. We seem to be turning into a hated third world country that is more concerned with the rights of degenerates and Illegal invaders than the people of this land that keep it free and strong. Rant off.

Sadly (and ironically), it's the 3rd-world countries that hate us most of all, but they can't seem to wean themselves of the good ol' USA tit. Our global contributions are more than most of these poor countries' total worth. Kind of sad, really.

Me and the wifey-poo will be taking a week off in September to finish-off the house and then maybe by October I can pop a couple out.

Jeff, I agree with you, but guess I like Bush a little more. Actually, it really bothers me to even think that John Kerry could win for President, just my two cents.

Thanks, B-man. That sums it up pretty good. In a redneck sort-of-way, th e lesser of two evils does come up as GW. Its just frightening to think of what Kerry will do to this country. If any of you own guns, you better squirrel them away now.

I agree that both of them, along with most politicians, are crap. I personally think Bush is the crappier crap in the crap pile though. What I think we really need, even though I know it'll probably never happen, is Jesse "The President" Ventura. ;)

Jesse "The President" Ventura.

:) :cool:

Bush = :grumpy: :grumpy:

Kerry= :grumpy: :grumpy: :o :o :barf:

Jeff has such a special way with words.....:eek: :D :p

I think it would be immensely helpful to the political system in general if a "no confidence" checkbox was included on the ballots. If the "no's" win, then the self-serving political parties would have to regroup and field better candidates.

Personally, I feel we've had two lousy choices offered way too often in the thirty-odd years I've been voting. This time around is exceptionally poor.

Whine and Cheese or the Political forum?

Over here we cuss and discuss knifemaking. Not much else is as important.

Right on the money. I have never voted for anyone for president since I started in 1968, just against whichever SOB I liked the least.

I think that anyone that wants the job is automatically unqualified for it.

Craig has it right guys, we really shouldn't drag something as stinky as this years politics into the shop. The fact that George reeks of cronyism, among other things, and that Kerry doesn't exactly fire you up really should be discussed in one of the more appropriate forums kindly provided by our host. In fact it just may be already, I think I will go check. :D

In a little over three years dubya has given us a police state, a war no one believes in and rampant corporations hell bent on raping our future and delivering us a nice vanilla culture. I think that man is the worst thing to happen to America in my conscious lifetime. I've never voted for a liberal in my life but I'd rather have almost anyone in office but that 'wipe. I'd bet he's never read the Constitution, even though he did swear to uphold it. :barf:

There. It's out. Just my humble opinion of course.

Well gee thanks for policing this, fellas, but I wanted to hear from my friends HERE. My ADULT friends. I have no qualms in saying that 99% of the rest of the forums on this site are nothing but free-for-all garbage imho. I originally intended for this thread to be lightly amusing, but still getting my point across. Like minds think alike, and we knifemakers tend to think along the same lines and like the same things in life. Hence, the real reason I posted this here. I could care less what someone with 40-gazillion posts in Pirate's Cove thinks about Kerry. All my buddies are here. :D

Okay. I'll bite at this one too, Craig. This DOES pertain to us. Austraila has a ban on swords. The liberals have seen to it that if you want to own one, you have to practically jump through hoops. How would something like this affect our livelihood? Man, I don't even want to go there. You put a couple of over-the-top liberals like Kerry and Edwards in the White House, and our world of custom cutlery will go under fire. I can almost guarantee it. Go ask Steve Licata. Liberals keep chipping away at our fundamental American rights. Guns are under constant attack, and with these two Democrats in the Whitehouse firearms will take another dive toward extinction. Then the knives and swords will go. Before long all we will have to defend ourselves with are strong language and sticks with dogturds on the end.

Oh and let me take this opportunity to make some pre-emptive apologies to Guy and Craig. I hate politics, I really do. I really hate discussing them. I only wrote this thread to liven things up a little here. Shoptalk has been in the summertime slump and quite frankly, a little boring. I just felt the need to help liven it up. No offense intended to you two fine gentlemen or your political views. This goes for anyone else who may read the above thread and feel angered by my "red-necked-ness" concerning this election.

Peace above all! :D

Jeff your point of liberal attacks on "weapons" is well taken. I've been asking myself a lot lately whether, knowing what I know now, I would have voted for Gore. NO! - but know I would rather fight for my gun rights than fight for all my rights. Which is where I think we are now. Of the two, I think Kerry is far more likely to consider Constitutional issues than Bush.

Bush has done two things I approve of: reaffirm the Second Ammendment right of individuals to own firearms, and take out the Taliban. Every other syllable that guy has uttered makes me want to puke.

Still, the thought of voting for Kerry creeps me out; it just goes against my whole voting record. ;)

I jumped into this thread because all my friends are here too, and I don't frequent any of the other forums here. FWIW, my face-to-face friends are pretty evenly divided on this issue, and most have reasonable arguments to support their beliefs. But I think they're all missing the point, which is that this ain't America any more. It's some testosterone-fueled perversion of Christian morality being imposed on our country and the rest of the world by brute strength. (Standard "just my opinion" disclaimer inserted here. That's not to offend Christians; I'm one.)

Well, I guess it's not the first time and we've survived politicians steamrollering over the Constitution before. We have an exceptionally powerful democratic system of government; I'm in awe of the founders. There's always hope people will realized what they're losing before it's lost for good. ... Right?
