Don't really postt here but thought you W&S Guys would find this interesting

So you ship your item out and they coat it with some kind of waterproof crap? I'd like to hear from someone that got it done. Sounds like a pretty cool idea.

The way I understood it is it coats inside and out with some type of thin nonconducting film so while water may get in the device it does not get to any of the conducting electronics so they do not short out.

that's pretty cool stuff...

the "abrasive action" to repair stuff sounds risky, but maybe its worth it for something you don't expect to need to fix...

I can't get the page to open, but I have heard of it and it sounds like something worth trying.

Another Engadget reader, cool.

I'm not so sure about this one given the effort vs results. Despite the 'waterproofing' in the videos they themselves are regarding it more as 'splashproofing'. That's kinda intuitive to what I would expect with things with moving parts or plug holes. Still, neat idea.

Given they seem to be a reputable bunch it would be nice if they could get it going as a consumer apparatus for domestic application, kinda like home shrink-wrap / vacuum pack stuff we can get now. That would fit great with the "casual nature", and I'd be poking all sorts of things through it. Gotta wonder about heat in portable PC though, mmm. And I'm also wondering about the mobile phone down the dunny thing as it relates to coating vendors sometimes put on their viscera to disclose one trying to pull a crafty claim after a bog-wash and hair dryer job.
