Don't think I can do it.

Sold some of my knives because I realized my budget just didn't really allow it. And if I was going to spend money I shouldn't it should probably be on ammo. I was thinking unfortunately the gso 5 probably should go on the market. But it just arrived today. Honestly I don't think I can sell it.

Everybody always says an item is worth more than they paid etc. But in this case i think it's actually true. It's a factory second but looks nearly flawless. It's also the sharpest knife I've ever had out of box. It would whittle hair. I don't mean it scrape shaves. I mean it's actually sharp enough to split and whittle hairs

These are definitively knives that should last a lifetime or two. You should probably sell something that won't last as long - like a kidney or something :-)

Joking aside, you've got to do what you've got to do to stay financially solvent, but like Adam said it very well may be something you regret later, especially since they won't be making the 5's anymore - and especially, especially if you like it that much.

Trust your instincts! Usually people experience the remorse after they sell something, if you're already feeling that way, then you know what to do! Especially since if you ever decide you'll need another 5, you'd have to go with the secondary market since they're not made anymore. If any of you have read even half of one of my posts, you know I love that model beyond words, so yeah, this is pretty biased advice.

Guy's work speaks for itself. Glad to hear you appreciate it so much.

Silver Needle says:
1. Keep it
2. Use it
3. Post pics
4. Thank us for the good advice later :D

It reminds me of the quintessential survival knife, it feels like it'll slice, chop, hack, pry, dig, hammer. Anything you'd need it to do. Maybe it won't do it fantastic, but it'll do it. I think I could even give this to my dad and it would survive. I wasn't going to cancel my 7/7 preorder regardless because I would feel like a dick. But now I know its definitely worth it.

I have it wrapped up in a cloth soaked with ballistol atm. Might not be as great as a rust preventative as eezox. But its food safe and good for the handles.

YES!!!!! Well said. I wish I could have put my thoughts into words as well as you did. The capabilites that you mentioned plus the ergonomics and balance make it hard for me to put it down. Sometimes I wonder if Guy came to my house, made a mold of my hand while I slept and used it to shape the handle on the 5.

The overall ergonomics and finish is nice enough I know I will be tempted to watch for the 5.1 seconds. I can't really afford to buy one, but the temptation is there.

I'd keep it for sure. It's NOT going to decline in value. Honestly right now I'd even wager to say that Survive! has the same value retention as Busse, at least it seems that way.

I wanted to get rid of the 5.1 at one point( I love this knife just wanted to make room for more) but momma_toothpick said no. She said if it wasn't mine anymore she was taking it. I told her give me the money for it and it was hers. She told me I was lucky it wasn't hers anyways. Needless to say I still have it. I'm very happy I hadn't got rid of it.

Not telling you what to do but IMO I think you should keep it. If not you'll regret it if you ever go looking for another.

I definitely think its here to stay. Can't argue with the warranty either. Lots of companies say they warranty their knife against anything, but don't cover handle damage, chipping, broken tips etc.

3V is more corrosion resistant than you think. I doubt you need those coatings. I only wipe mine with mineral oil if I know its not gonna be used fr a while. And don't sell it. I might be wrong but I don't the the 5.0 will be made again. I believe the 4.7 is its replacement.

No longer to be made. So that makes the 5 worth even more. Keep it and you will be glad you made that decision.

3V is pretty resistant from what I hear. But I can rust just about anything. So I like to get some kind of oil or rust preventative on the exposed tang especially.

She's a beaut SBaker34!!
I'd personally try to hold on to it. Splitting up lumber or hacking down trees is kinda hard with a gun! It would be fun as hell though!

Pretty sure the Ole mosin could do it. Probably without pulling the trigger...

But that reminds me. I wonder how long the edge will stay shaving sharp if I start beating on some trees...

It really depends on what kind of wood you're beating it against. I've used a mine on seasoned oak and they were surprisingly sharp still. I'd suggest picking up a nice strop to keep that edge dialed in.

I might be strange but I prefer the 4.7 compared to the 5

Makes sense. The 4.7 is like the gen. II GSO 5 with obvious improvements. My 5 is my favorite knife that I own and have used, and like I've said, with a new design on the horizon, there could be a real expiration date on what I consider to be my grail.
