I usually print off just the amount of map needed and got to thinking about the reverse side, I put some knot pics on the rear, but you could put anything- first aid, plant id even another map

I think you should print a duplicate copy of your map on the opposite side... just incase you lose the original.;)

Good idea.

I usually plot my map with small numbered marks. On the backside i jot down gps positions, time, distance covered, etc. and any thing else worth mentioning for each plot. Good way to see progress made during a trip.

That's a good idea. I usually carry it separate, but could print a trail description on there. I love those, when they're accurate, because they describe what you're about to see, and should expect to see, and sometimes point out things you wouldn't notice.
I also highlight my route, mark mileage at different points, and depending on the scale, put directional arrows in the margins with brief notes about what is in each direction. That way if I ever get hopelessly lost in an unfamiliar area, at least I'll know the general direction to head in, and if hurt, you don't want to follow a roundabout trail for ten miles if there's a road a couple clicks off the map, either.

in the army we use to always put the legend on the back and with the extra room we put hot naked ladies so no matter where you were you had the essentials :)

definitely a good idea for sure

Chinese takeaway menu, I reckon - for that last twenty minutes of the drive on the way back home after a weekend up a hill eating rehydrated crap :D

Call in cold beer and beef and broccoli (handsfree of course)
