Four o-rings ensure that it is waterproof within the normal use of a bushcrafter.

Lanyard and Dummy cord added like the KM match cases to prevent loss of cap.

Underneath the cap will have 600 grit wet dry as a striking surface contact cemented on.

Holds exactly 20 strike anywhere matches matches and one small cotton ball to prevent the matches from bouncing about (and act as tinder).

Weght empty 19 grams.
Weight full 24 grams.

Carbon fibre tubing (about 0.800 OD) with a total length about 3.5 inches long.

Delrin top and bottom caps.

I have a little more tubing - so I will likely make a few more of these.

Great idea!
Looks good

I don't have a machine shop
So the $2 plastic ones work
How much do the plasitic ones weigh?

Like a KM on speed, and if those are any indication, that should be quite submersion proof! looks great.

That is really cool! I would love to be able to buy one of these!! My current match case is one of those bulky orange ones.

Gaget,

Build off the KM design - I made quite a few aluminum ones as well with my lathe - just for fun projects. These are all Type 3 Annodized (tougher than steel finish). I gave a few to my brother and my father and some buds for Chistmas a while back. I think I have three left. I put Ferro Rods in the base of the cap of the ones I have - to make it more multi purpose.

Here is one I made out of a broken Mini Mag lite:

Neeman - the difference between my KM and this is about an once - if that tells you anything. The advantage in weight is negligible - my title was just a joke. The only advantage is in the 'cool' factor - if you are into carbon fibre.

The Couglins plastic ones weight .6 oz. REI has them for $1.75.

If Tals weights under half an ounce it even beats the plastic ones.

However I like the screw top way better than the plug type.

I gave away my KM because the plug kept coming out every time I carried it, and the damn strings kept getting tangled on everything.

UCO makes one too already filled with storm proof matches and has a striker.

It weighs over an ounce filled but I'm not sure empty.

Hollowdweller:

Yeah - but is it CARBON FIBER/! Everyone knows when you put carbon fiber on anything it makes it cooler. Especially a sock Honda Civic - Carbon Fiber hood = like 2 more horse power!!!!!
