Don't You Hate It When You Sell, Buy Or Trade Something And You Get No Response?

This is one of those things that really irks me with SOME folks with whom you have bought, sold or traded with. NO RESPONSE! You take the time to answer all their e-mails and when the deal is made, you wrap the product up so carefully and then ship it to them in a timely matter. Or you send the payment promptly to them. You wait and wait and NO RESPONSE. You sometimes feel guilty as maybe the knife wasn't as expected or they didn't receive payment. You e-mail them and still, NO RESPONSE. If you persist, they might get irritated enough to answer you back and tell you they received payment for the knife or they are sending the knife in the next week or so. Most folks are really good about this matter but there are still enough that aren't and it's a real point of contention.

Sometimes it makes me want to go back to when that guy that used to buy, sell and trade on these forums and he made it mandatory that you give him a positive thread on this very forum before he bought, sold or traded with you. Sure worked for him until he screwed up!

Very frustrating:mad:
I always ask people to let me know when the package arrives. Twice now, I have sent stuff to people, once as a seller, once in a trade, and never heard from either again. Saw the trade item up for sale before I even knew it had arrived, or there was any indication that we were both happy (I emailed that things were good on my end, but got no response). Delivery confirmation works, but a little courtesy goes a long way. Lack of communication takes all the joy out of trading, and I won't fool with either of those guys again. Too many good guys out there to waste time with people who are a frustrating hassle to deal with.

Fortunately, that's something like 5% of the trades I've participated in, total. The other 95% were great, but it's easy to dwell on the negative sometimes...
Overall, I've been pleasantly surprised by just how GOOD the people I've dealt with have been:)

Gene I share the same feeling's you do!!I did it one time with a gentleman that I got some chef knives from. I couldn't find his email address and I couldn't say thank you!!! I hope he read's this so I can say, Thank's!!:) It is common respect to let eachother know right away that all is well be it money received or item's! Great topic! Thank's Mike

I did a great deal with Gene on a beloved Carson Lg 4. Great communication every step of the way, as it should be

Man, that Lg 4 is sweet! Thanks, Gene

That kind of crap is becoming more & more common, right along with people who back out of deals, don't send payment and say they did, etc, etc....

It's pretty much not even worth doing anymore, because it's become the rule and not the exception...

Way too much of that issue on this forum. Lot of guys just charge ahead with no courtesy or respect for others. I could name 3 in the last 3 weeks.:grumpy:

Yup, good communications is the foundation for any relationship, especially when money and/or goods are involved.

Agreed with everyone here. When communication breaks down or isn't used, it leaves people sometimes wondering whether they've lost their money during a purchase. I've only had one situation where I sold a knife to someone on the opposite side of the continent and it didn't get there as quickly as I expected. I kept in constant touch with them until it got there and was fully prepared to refund their money if it was "lost" in the mail (or if they're unhappy with it). I always contact people I've sold something to just to make sure they've gotten it and are happy with it. Unfortunately, I've assumed that was the normal way to do business. Now, I'm currently in a situation where I've laid out money and haven't gotten the goods after nearly two full weeks, and there's been no further communication from the seller despite my continued attempts to contact him. Never had that happen before, but I also don't do a lot of trading and buying in general, just enough to try out new things in which I'm interested but can't afford new. I'm usually a very understanding person, but when I start feeling like I've been taken I turn agressive.

Gene,

Send me that stag KFF and I GUARANTEE I will let you know when it arrives!! ;-)

Seriously, I try REALLY hard to communicate with people I trade/transact with, AND to leave feedback in GB&U because our reputations are all we have here in cyberspace (not original, but very apt). I have not really had any bad experiences like yours, though sometimes things take longer than we expect in the mail etc. I did a deal with another member once where he shipped a knife and my money order took a long time to get to him. I made sure to communicate with him and it all worked out.

Clearly someone who has not communicated with you for two weeks is an icehole. Matt

I agree! Communication is an important part of the deal, I feel better when I am told hey bud I just put your knife in the mail here is your tracking #. What really has been driving me nuts, is the fact that I have done alot of deals with many different members of Blade Forums, and when the deal is done I always leave feedback in the GB&U.
I on the other hand dont get the favor returned, The best I have gotten is a reply to my positive post. I think I am doing this right, You agree to deal with someone, you pay them, and they send you your knife, or visa versa. WTF is so hard about leaving a note saying hey everything went well with this guy. Is there some kind of special code word, or hand shake that gets you the good feed back?

mikemck - I agree wholeheartedly with what you wrote. There seem to be an awful lot of e-mail "tire kickers" these days. You respond and respond again and then all of a sudden they don't write back. At least an e-mail saying I don't want it any more or I traded for it would be nice. BTW, it isn't just the knife forums either. Had quite a few magazines "sold" but lately all I get from said buyer is when he has the money he will buy them, if I get another buyer go ahead and sell them and stuff of that nature. Makes me wonder why he wasted my time and his writing me initially.

Communication is key between any human interaction. As long as the perosn who I'm talkng to don't mind me writing a couple of emails (sometimes quite frequently), I'd always try and keep in touch until i know everything arrives.

Larry, thank you! You are one of the "good guys" my friend! I didn't mean to imply that this is a COMMON occurrence but just that it happens enough to be irritating.

I have done a lot of buying and selling on these forums from the outset and really, you knife people are the best! I have never actually been out and out burnt in a transaction but I just don't appreciate it when you go to great lengths to carefully package a knife up, send it out promptly and never hear a word again from the buyer.

This is off topic but I'll tell you all another thing that bugs me. The biggest hassles I've had on these forums have been with some of the makers. Let me say, I appreciate these wonderful folks as much as anyone for their great toil and craftsmanship and I know what a hassle it is to keep up with the demands on their time. I just can't stand it though when they become so successful or popular on the forums that they only respond to, (and excuse my language), "ass-kissers". These folks fawn over them and they become "royalty".
Promised lead times, payments sent beforehand, whatever, evaporate.

Makers REALLY SHOULD let people know from the outset that they'll be glad to make you a knife BUT it might take 6 months, a year or maybe even 2-4 years or that they are NOT taking ANY more orders until their current backlog is caught up. NO amount of ass-kissing will change their minds. First come, first served, no matter what!

Matt,
You have a deal. I'll send it right out but send a check first! :) You have the greatest Crawford collection I've ever seen!

I must admit that I just made a trade in the past couple of weeks and got a email from the person I traded with asking if I got it.OOPS I thought I had sent him an email saying I got it and liked it.If I did it must have not gone through.I did send him a reply saying that I did get it and that I thought I sent a email on it and said I was sorry. This is the first time I have done this.I do know what you mean about no responce on email, its been getting bader and worser.

You must be familiar with the the attitudes/egos of the Suspects.

That is neither a fair or accurate statement. It's like saying all white people are rednecks. Would you care to elaborate?

Zero

Gentlebeings, we're beginning to drift off topic. Whether all (or most, or some, or whatever) of a group of people have attitudes or egos or not is not really a question for this forum....
