You show up to one of your favorite local hikes and there's not another soul around :D

Just thought I would post some better pics of one of my favorite places after the thread pitman started. This is Mt. Agamenticus in York, ME. Just a small little mountain but tons of trails/hiking on the mountain and off. Here's a view shot from the top. You can see Mt. Washington off in the distance.

Another view shot.

Just a cool twisted broken stump.

With all the rain we've gotten this year, there's been a lot of erosion problems on the trails. These reveg areas are pretty common now unfortunately :(

With all the BOB/Go bag threads, I still have yet to take a pic of what I normally take. Here's my basic day hike pack. A little overkill for a few hours hike but, I like to at least keep my legs in the habit of carrying a backpack. Just your basic, goretex shell jacket and pants, a few knives (there's an assortment of fire startig items in the pocket of the large sheath), compass, water treatment pills, paracord, multitool, survival/emergency first aid pack guide, headlamp, and something you don't see often in a pack, a trowel. This comes in handy when trying to dig a fire pit, poop pit, etc in the rocky/rooted soil around here. Saves your blade and a lot of times, a stick just won't cut it or will take you a while at least. Not pictured but, always present are tp, a cell phone, and a few water bottles.

Anyway, just thought I would share. Hope you enjoy the pics :)

Not enough knives, by weight or volume! :D

Wow, nice, looks like central Maine to me, that's how I remember it.
Great view.

Is the '"regrowth" area caused by your last several attacks on trees with your edged instruments of death?

Great pics!! thanks.

Hi SkunkWerx. Could always be more knives but, this is about my minimum. If I try to bring less, the others just sit there and cry out of jealousy and loneliness...LOL

This is actually about as south in Maine as you can get only about 20 minutes North of Portsmouth, NH. It's great because pretty much all that land surrounding the mountain is reserve land open for hiking, biking, hunting, etc. I usually don't spend to much time on Aggie itself but, with hunting season in full swing, I try to stay closer the main hiking areas. I take a bit more gear with me if I'm heading out into the main woods of the reserve. Real easy to get lost out there. Very hard to get your bearings in the back woods without a compass. Good place to practice survival and navigational skills ;)

That pic of the twisted tree just unwound all the stress ut of my body.

Like you said lotsa well used trails that are being well maintained. I can smell the fresh air from here.

aaron, oh yes, it's hunting season don't venture in there too far, especailly wearing a furry cap!!

Not trying to be funny, but more curious....What do use the hand trowel for?
(Geology, rock collecting?)

Hi Kevin, glad I could help you unwind. The trails on Aggie itself are very well maintained. Between the hiking community and mountain biking community, there is no shortage of volunteers to help keep everything clean and maintained.

SKunkWerX, the trowel is for digging "poop pits" as I call em...LOL Sometimes you just gotta go but, it's good practice to bury any waste. The trowel saves the wear on my knives of trying to dig through rocky, rooted soil ;)

Thanks ash:) It's a great fun little place. I recommend it to anyone driving through Maine. It's only about 15 minutes or so from the interstate.

Back in the day, my wife and I used to hike Mt. Katahdin in Maine, used to see lots of landscapes like that dotted with small lakes. I'm glad to see you have the garden trowel, it is a most useful tool.

I LOVE finding noone else around at my local hikes! Maine looks very cool, nice pictures. John

Thanks reconseed :) But, no cheese, that there be bacon ;) Pictured is an Ergo Battle Mistress, Ergo BAdger Attack, Skeleton Key, and an Assault Shaker. The AS I keep in my pocket, the BA-E on my waist, the SK tucks into the pouch on the BM-E sheath and those go in my pack.

Coldwood, I love Katahdin. Some good hiking up in that area. Sad to say though, it's been a little while since I've made it up there :( The trowel is indeed very useful. Great for making fire pits too

Hi datsgor. I had almost the whole place to myself until the end of the hike when I ran into older couple out hiking. They were some locals out enjoying the weather. Not that I have anything against anyone from out of town but, being a big tourist area in Southern Maine, there are lots of a**hole tourists that come in from New York and Massachusetts that just have no respect for the area. I ALWAYS end up bringing out far more crap than I bring in :( Sorry, I'm done ranting. What was I saying? Oh yes, thanks datsgor...LOL

Theres a real nice trail back home that my friend brad and i hike quite a bit. i think we've done it 3 or 4 time now, and every time its all ours.

Jerry,
Outstanding pics, and the hardware is not too shabby either. I don't know why I never thought of it before, but your post actually made me think, "there IS a benefit to sitting around on the couch getting fat and watching reruns of Oprah!!!" Specifically, you get a beautiful place like that all to yourself while everyone else is watching the tube.

Ok, it's late and I have obviously had one too many. I was looking at the "Jerry" at the bottom of your posts!!! LOL! Maybe I should just go to sleep!

Maine is a great place to see meese. They're so thick on the ground you can almost knock them over with a stick., Big MFs though :D

Here's to some great Busse hardware that you have!!!

Thanks :)

Not too many down this area. I haven't even seen one in my area in over a year though I do see tracks every once in a while. Used to see them all the time when I was a kid though. Even had one follow about 20ft behind me for 2 miles walking to school...LOL

Maine is simply awesome.

Perhaps a little cold for my taste, but awesome nonetheless.

As a child my parents and I went on a camping trip to Moosehead Lake....if I'm not mistaken on the name.

We camped right on the edge of the lake, pulled up the pickup truck and pitched a large tent right there. We also had an Old Town canoe that we used on the lake a few times.

Good times. Nice place.
