Doofus: No. 24 - First Bowie

Dave...U DA MAN! Incredible!

I've got a question...

I'm doing something similiar ...well actaully not at all similar.. not really...but the question is: it looks like the tang is taller at the back of the handle..? so how did you slip the guard over the tang to install it? ... since the guard seat is much smaller looking.

That is the problem on my project. I want a full guard on a coffin handle but the handle is too tall to slip the guard on with out having a huge gap once the guard is in place.

Oh yea...did I say incredible knife? Keep posting those bad boys!

Sincerely,
Rob

Thanks for posting that Dave:cool:

Rob,The framed handle is the way allot of the antique Bowies were constructed. The Jewelers could be working on them while the blade was being finished by someone else.If you want to freak someone out try putting a brass frame on a handle for a skinner and when people look at it and wonder how you got a brass colored full tang knife you can just laugh:D

Good Luck on your knife handle and if you have any questions about the construction just email me.

Dave the bowie looks great, I wouldn't care one bit about that little mistake. Then again, I don't care about a lot of things. :p he he Honestly, I wouldn't care, but thats me. I like coarse finishes anyways. Especially if in contrast with finer ones.

Dave,

BEAUTIFUL KNIFE, If letting them sit and age makes them come out like that, I won't finish another knife for at least 6 months. :D

How did that double ended, dagger type, thingy you was working on a while back turn out. I don't remember ever seeing a picture of it finished.

Great job

Bill

Bill, amazing you'd remember that! I'd almost lost track of it, lot of water under the bridge since then. I'll see the owner of it this weekend, I usually pay it a visit when he's in town. :)
