Hey all, after seeing massive amounts of pics from someone (namwithheld :) ) I have been interested in a double bitted axe for woods use. I was looking at the GB throwing axe and was wondering if anyone had any experience with it as a woods tool. Thanks.
 
The throwing axe is huge. Probably not the best choice unless your car camping.

The head weighs 3 pounds and the handle is 36"

Get a Reeves or other custom for the same price.

The Lee Reeves is a great hatchet, that is very versatile in the woods. Light, and ready to eat wood like Chee-Toes!

Google Lee Reeves and you will find his web site. Great Guy to deal with. I believe his wait time is around 10-12 months right now. I waited 11 IIRC.

That lee reeves is a very sexy hatchet, I looked into getting one, but was taken aback by the $165 price tag and 12-14 month wait.

Off topic, but how would you compare the quality to a gransfors?

Well it's a custom hand forged axe, so I would say it's fit and finish is higher than GB. However usability really isn't any better than a GB, nor a Wetterlings for that matter.

I bought the Reeves for a light weight backpacking hatchet.
 
Here is a top down view. One side is thinner with a keener edge for clear wood, and skinning. The other is thicker, with a blunter edge for hard wood, bone, and knots.

The axe is about 22-24 oz, 15 " long, with a 2 1/2 " edge. Osage handle.
