Double Cut ?

I am going to ordered a CGASH from Busse. I need help on what is the difference from a double cut blade to the standard CG ? Also, what are the pros and cons to the double cut ? Your advise is greatlty appreciated on my decision what to order.

Double Cut is just bead blasted. It looks nicer (matter of opinion) than a coated blade, especially after use. The only disadvantage is that it would technically make the blade more prone to rusting. Most will tell you that INFI has strong rust resistance and haven't actually experienced any rust on any of their own uncoated blades.

I have a few coated and uncoated blades (both satin and DC) and haven't had any rust on any of my uncoated blades.
 
Double cut tends to be more prone to rust.. I have noticed the rust to begin forming in multiple speckles. So far every double cut Busse I have owned had some sort of rust that needed to be tended to.. I find the satin finish much more rust resistant..

I just spent some time today taking the rust out of the talon holes in my DC/snake FSH
and on the spine of my BM E LE. The rust in the talon holes was pretty bad and took a while to clean without any sort of sanding..

Double Cut is still one of my favorite finishes though..
 
Is there anything that can be applied to the double cut finish to keep it from rusting?

Are satin blades safe from rust if you oil them up with mineral oil or something similar?

I have tested both finishes by submerging them in water for 24 hrs.
one satin GW and another double cut GW. The satin one showed absolutely no rust in a 24 hr period. I even went over the blades with a blow dryer every few hours and re submerged.

The double cut one showed the beginning signs of rust a few hours into my experiment. I ended up taking the smog warden out of the water half way through due rust..
 
Bead blasted blades will rust just by lookin' at 'em the wrong way. Satin finish is better IMHO. But it must be nakid!!!!

Edit: Small scare, I looked in the talon holes of my DC SOW and thought I saw rust!!! Turns out they were just super dusty!

I saw that pic over in the Fehrman thread BTW, if Noss ever puts one thru it's paces I may end up eating my words! :eek:
 
You'd probably like it a lot. They're not as overbuilt as some Busse's, but they're good knives. Keep in mind, if Noss ever DOES test it, that it won't be as thick as that ffbm.

Honestly, I've often wondered why there isn't much of a vocal following for them on BF. However, when I went and checkout out the HoodsWoods forum I found a lot of people who love 'em.

Be happy, brother. Your day is almost up. ; ) At the very least, things aren't going nearly as bad for you as they are for that guy over in W&C. Seems like it's pretty easy to get a hog name these days. I'll keep my own.

Yeah, I definitely didn't wanna participate in the circus that's going on over in W&C.

I'm hoping tomorrow will be my day, back on topic - I've got a new Double Cut *special something* en route, I thought it'd be here today so I'm hoping it arrives tomorrow - otherwise I'll have to wait all weekend!

I just adont want to feel like an ass though... :D maybe when i get my braces though :) by then thoughs Nessmucks should be coming out soon... :D
