Double Double Prototype

Just like any maker I have files full of designs drawn or doodled over the past 10 years, I've designed a few with small companion knives. Made this prototype to see how the set would work out both knives and the sheaths. I'll probably change the small one though, for a 2 finger it's comfortable especially with the cord but think I'll change the handle shape and make it a 3 finger instead.

Before making a couple sets thought I would ask your opinion. The thong/lanyards obviously can be easily removed or changed, the large sheath can be worn with or without the center strap, it's held on with a couple Chicago screws. The small sheath can be worn separately or strapped to the larger sheath, I added the tie down eyelets to the bottom of both sheaths but can easily be cut off if not wanted.

Large knife:
6 1/2" from tip of blade to handle, hamon polished then hand satin finish 1095 blade
Natural canvas Micarta scales with black G10 liners on tapered tang
10 7/8" o.a.l.
Deer lined w/ roll top pouch sheath

Small knife:
3" from tip of blade to handle, hamon polished 1095 blade
Natural canvas Micarta scales w/ black G10 liners
5 1/4" o.a.l.
Deer lined w/ roll top pouch sheath

Your opinions, suggestions are welcomed,
Thanks for looking,
Dave

Couldn't get a decent pic of the blade, try to ignore the dirty looking blade finish

I think the set is absolutely gorgeous and I can't believe how you made the micarta look so great. Personally I would remove the lanyards just because I feel two lanyards will be in the way more often than they will be useful. Of course thats just a personal opinion. The knives and sheets are spot on.

They are simply beautiful knives. I wouldn't change a thing.

David, beautiful work on the knives, but the sheaths appear to be you best work to date! I tried to figure out the chicago screw thing and I finally decided the two female parts are permanent and embedded in the back of the sheath flush and epoxied between the lining and the exterior. Did I guess right?

That is really an ingenious rig - brilliantly conceived and executed. The knives look really nice as well, and +1 to the comment on micarta looking so nice. Good stuff Dave.

Dave,

Each of those are beautiful knives alone, but the set, with sheaths are fantastic.

Very nice set! I like big 'n little pairs. :) I particularly like the profile on the little one, but the hamon on the big one is something else!

Thanks very much you guys!!

Exactly right Paul, the Chicago screw posts that I have are domed so I ground them flat (similar to Sam Browne studs) then set in and slightly ramped over with J-B Weld then lined.

They really look great together Dave. stand alone as well! Great micarta. I love the grinds...

I love to see customs paired up like this! Superb work, Dave. I like the three finger change suggested for the smaller blade. The thong/lanyard set up works well here, I believe. Not sure the tie down eyelets serve much purpose on the smaller sheath other than a match. Great hamon work on both. Love the packages!

SUPERB knives AND sheaths Dave. That micarta looks so good, at first glance, I thought it was fine wood!
