I tried clay quenching for the first time today, some 1095 hunter blades and, simply, I was a little off on the clay positioning. The hamon is low and ends just short of the ricasso so I was wondering if it is ok just to repeat the clay and quench or do I have to go through the normalize or even anneal first?

yep, or chances are it will break

Normalize, don't anneal. Or you could stress relieve at 1200 F.
