I'm currently making a short self-defense small punching dagger and I was just wondering are there any tricks/tips for keeping the blade 100% symmetrical.
If the profile isn't symmetrical then the grinds won't matter. Start by drawing one side on "hinge" side of a folded piece of paper. Cut it out and unfold and you'll have a symmetrical template. You can also draw it up in almost any sketch program. For the grinds you can mark the center of the blade on both sides and use a file guide for the plunges. Other than that it's pretty much just a bunch of constant adjustments from start to finish to keep it symmetrical.
Dykem layout fluid, a scribe/calipers. Super slow and take very little at a time when you get close to your lines. Don't be afraid to recoat latout fluid a dozen times if needed.
