Has anyone purchased one of these? It's like the Ritter Griptilian only in S30V steel - stone washed. I really like the look of it. It's advertised as BM552 but they don't list it.

Thanks for any opinions or recommendations!

Lots of threads on these here. IMO...

The blade shape is better than those available in the BM catalog.

S30V is still a great choice, though we are getting spoiled by the availability of things like M4, ZDP189 and S90V, among others.

The Axis lock is great - strong with great ergos, and the springs don't break nearly as often as you'd think reading fora like this.

The Grip is a good platform, but the mini size feels more solid than the full size. The mini comes close to a full liner; more or less the same amount of metal in a larger handle.

There is a new limited edition in M4, which is not "stainless" but will take a sharper edge and hold it longer.

They're like Lays potato chips - no one can have just one! :D

That IS the Ritter Griptilian ;)

Doug RitterSurvivalKnife and its the first model he made(Designed).

And it's a pretty good knife, sold only at aeromedix.
Some people don't like the handles as they have a "cheap or crappy" feel to them.
Other then that its hard to find flaw with it

You may have to wait awhile if you want the stonewashed finish (which I recommend). I had to wait for about three weeks, and even then I was lucky to get the last one.

* The blade shape is indeed terrific. It slices very well, and I think it'll be easy to sharpen.

* It came nice and sharp.

* The handle feels good. It's very light, which puts the balance point of the knife right over your index finger.

* The clip is "now" parkerized black (was it painted before?). It's the usual Benchmade clip, and works fine. It screws into stainless steel inserts in the handle.

* The handle is hollowed out, with reinforcing ribs. That makes it sound hollow when you tap it with a fingernail, and that is probably what people are perceiving as "feeling cheap".

* Like most new knives, it came under-lubed. I took the blade out, cleaned off the old oil, and applied Phil Wood Tenacious Oil to the pivot, blade, and washers, with a toothpick (that's terrific knife oil, BTW). I also lubed the liners where the Axis Lock post rubs. Made a big difference.

* From the pics at Aeromedix, I was afraid that it would be a little big. In practice, not so. It's light and small enough that I forget I'm carrying it.

I'd definitely buy it again. (In fact, I've ordered one of the M4/DLC models.)

cheers,

Adam

Thanks all - I ordered it and the knife shipped today. A lot more than I paid for my Pardue BM551BK which was only $63 on eBay!

It's been my work edc for the last 2.5 years. I can find
no fault w/it. The handle material is of no consequence
to me.

I agree there is nothing wrong with the handle. One of my favorite knive to carry (the mini).

Don't have a ritter but S30V is my favorite blade steel these days. Pretty much everything I use on a daily baisis is S30V (Sebenza, Spyderco Military, and BM740).

I got one of the mini Ritter Grips about 2 years ago. Great folder, love the blade shape and mine is a silky smooth flick opener. I haven't used it to heavily because of the chipping issues I've read about S30V, although if it is a serious chip I'd imagine Doug or Benchmade would repair it under warranty (as long as the damage wasn't due to abusive use).

I love the Ritter Grips, especially the Minis. I find that the Minis are perfect for me for day to day use, so I have ordered M4 Minis, but have given the full sized a miss this time.
