DougC will live on...

As a couple of you have also said, Doug was one of the first people on here to send me a friend request.
He was also the first person outside of the UK to purchase one of my knives...something I will never forget.
To me he always came across as one of life's genuinely good people.
Sad news indeed.

Ian.

Doug was one of the first to people forward a "friend" request when I joined BladeForums.

^^^ THIS. Doug and I never had any significant exchanges, but he was one of the first guys to send me a friend request here. I'll miss seeing him around.

I'm very sorry to read this. Doug was a very nice man, supportive of custom knives, and supportive of my work. Condolences to his family.

Sad to learn. I always felt like I knew Doug well, even though we never met. He so loved custom knives and the interaction he had on and outside these forums. So supportive and positive. Great person.

Will miss you Doug.

Very sad loss to the knife community. Doug was one of the nicest guys I've known.

RIP DC. another 'first friend' request here on BF. He will be missed.

Sadly, another gentleman lost. Doug taught me a lot via PMs about bladeforums when I first joined, invaluable advice I've tried to pass back on to other newcomers. Thanks again Doug, may you forever rest in peace, and condolences to his close ones.

Doug was a great guy. He was always there with a kind word and encouragement and he was the epitome of a real knife guy.
I am only so sorry that I never got the opportunity to meet him in person.
My deepest condolences and sympathies to all his family and friends.

So sorry to hear; Doug must have liked my posts or pics, because he sent me a friend request... I reciprocated, and we shared some thoughts here on BF. His presence here will be missed; smoke and prayers to his loved ones.

I think that one thing which set Doug Castor apart from just about everyone on Bladeforums was his friending of just about every new member who joined up here.

It's rare for people to make consistently positive efforts like that, and if a little bit of that rubbed off on others, I think it's a good thing.

Steven, Steven and Jim Cooper summed things up well from my experiences with Doug.

We lost a very good person who was passionate about pretty much all people and knives. He will be dearly missed by a lot of us.

In my case that says a lot, like many I never got the chance to meet him in person, yet I have thought about him and the way he treated people and his deep interest in knives this week. When I lose a friend like that, I try to incorporate the aspects that I admired most in some way in my life. He left some might big shoes to fill in a lot of ways. He left behind a big challenge for me.

Aw, what a nice guy he was. I never met him in person but have spoken to him outside of the forum a few times. We communicated about Matts hunter, in which I was interested in buying from him and just talked knives in general. Always positive and friendly!

I am very sorry to hear this news. Like many of you, Doug sent me a friend request early on in my membership. He was a good example to all of us.
David
