Douk Douk

Had a little insomnia last night so I came on the Forum for a bit, hopefully just to get a little sleepier. Ended up ordering a Douk Douk.:roll eyes:

Have always had an interest in these as they remind me of the K-55s I always carried as a kid. Should be a fun thing to mess with. Probably have to sharpen it a bit when I first get it, no? What angle is best if I use a Lansky system?

Dang you Blade Forum nuts! Look what you've made me do now!!

You may not have to sharpen it, maybe a quick strop on cardboard to clean up a burr. Thin blade, slices nicely and really doesn't need an edge bevel.

I've had a few Douk Douks for a while and finally got around to picking up another K55. My last one was rusted out after I left high school.

This thread reminded me....my Douk Douk seems to have come up missing.

Definitely will be ordering another one of those...

Thank you all for your replies, I should be getting one for Christmas. I've been looking for a good, solid, unique knife to use for anything that will last me years and years without blade play or anything, and I think this may be the one. The fact that they don't have blade play, and if they do it's easily fixed, is awesome for me, and hard to come by nowadays it seems.

I miss mine, I gave it to my sister for her birthday. Oh well, $20 isn't too hard to scrape up.

Originally, I owned the medium douk douk. I had a pretty nice set up for pocket carry too, I looped about a foot of bead chain through the bail on the end and left the length hanging out of my pocket. Never had any problems with snagging, but was easy to get to and inconspicuous.

Douk Douk is a fine knife, however the steel is a little on the soft side at 53R. Good slicer, great for food and slitting throats :) but it will dull pretty quick on other things. It's a good knife to learn about edge geometry and how it will also effect how a blade cuts.

Just got mine today. Very funky, very cool. Super tight slip joint that takes some doing to open. Not complaining, it surely won't open accidentally in my pocket.

Thanks for planting the bug in my head.

Oh, and to answer the OP's question, absolutely zero blade play. Nice.
