Douple Pole SSR, anyone using one?

Ok so I'm upgrading a lot of things in the knife shop this summer. I built several years ago a super insulated 220 volt heat treat oven and I know I'm in the minority here but have been using a standard double pole relay with good results. But while doing some upgrades I thought maybe I should change to SSR but only see them in single pole. Including a wiring diagram here in the stickies that shows two SP SSR's. So my question is has anyone found a affordable double pole SSR that has worked well for them or should I just plan on two single pole SSR's? I have found one site that has a double pole SSR but for the life of me I can't find where they sell a heat sink for it. I can call or email I suppose but figured someone on here could recommend one or suggest just to stay with the two SP SSR's.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with running an electromechanical relay to switch your load. This is the way it was done for years before SSR's came along. So you might only get 1 million cycles before failure whereas an SSR would give you 10 million....does this really make a difference? That said, you have 3 choices. One, use two SSR's and parallel the inputs. Two, use one SSR and use the output to drive two triacs, which in turn power your loads. Three, purchase a DPDT SSR for too much money even though internally its nothing more than two SSR's with their inputs wired in parallel. And there's a fourth option I suppose as well. Keep the electromechanical relay. Comes down to what granddaddy use to tell me all the time..."If it aint broke, don't fix it".

"If it aint broke, don't fix it".

That's my mantra for sure - on the SSR relay, the "biggest" reason to use those are if you plan to modulate (PID control) the output rather than simply "OFF/ON" type control.

I hear you. Might just keep what I have. I planned on using external heat sinks and hate the idea of cutting two precise openings for two heat sinks in my control box. I just thought surely someone made a reasonably priced double pole SSR. Thanks for the advice.

Yep....a 3 phase SSR would be another good option...they've really come down in price since the last time I'd looked at one. Definitely worth keeping in mind for this sort of project.
