Nice sheath! I got one of these the other day. Great blade..pretty average handy. I hate mirror finish also. My friend Brent the sheathmaker is going to pimp it for me. Put a g10 handle and 800grit finish on the blade and tidy the sheath up a bit. Then it will look the part.

Thanks ;D That sounds really cool, please upload a picture when it's all siad and done! I think modifying a knife is a great idea, it adds the personal touch that breaks the "yelow pencil" mold

this bowie is beautiful. I really want one to use though. I do not like the idea of a wall hanger. It's like owning a car you wont drive.......

Nice review on the knife. I just purchased one of these and I am not too happy with the quality control of this company. First off there was a small defect on the blade edge that whoever was grinding, sharpening and polishing at the factory should have noticed and sent this one back to the smelter. Another issue I have with this knife is the handle, it looks as though someone got a little overzealous on the grinder and ground the handle a little too small, I have big hands and my fingers go right around this handle, it looks like the guy that made horndog's Bowie knew what he was doing and made a handle that matches the size and weight of the knife. Anyway I was in touch with Down Under Knives via email and they said I could send the knife back under warranty and they would re-grind and re-finish the blade at no charge, the only catch being that I would have to ship it to Finland to get it done and that would cost me around $75 with delivery confirmation and insurance. Having already paid over $250 for the knife I don't really want to spend any more on a knife that I don't think is even worth $150. It does make a nice display piece but I wouldn't recommend it for doing any type of heavy duty work or cutting because you don't know what other defects there could be in the steel since it appears they don't have the greatest quality control where they make them.

I love big bowies too. I found the one I have been looking in the Svord Von Tempske bowie. I love that thing. Just a first rate cutting tool. I've several other bowies most notable among them a fully modified W49 done according to how Mr. Bagwell suggested they be modified for a better all around user. It's an oldy but a goody. Now I just need to get my act together and have a sheath made for it that is a custom fit! keepem sharp

I am a fan of the W49 Bowie as well. It would be interesting to see a individual post on that subject.
