I live in the suburbs, and I get almost all of my wood by scavenging limbs dropped by weather or age/insects or talking up tree trimmers. There is a surprising amount of wood to be gained just by listening for the call of the Suburban Chainsaw.
My broad axe is freshly sharpened, I have a brand new adze that I haven't even dulled the maker's edge on yet, and a church nearby just had a fairly straight 15 foot limb of Oak nearly a foot around the at the base drop on the ground. And here I am, on crutches with a broken leg. The Wood Gods are taunting me.
There will be other opportunities, but I just had to come here and say, "ARRRGGHH."
