Yes...it's called Joe's Operating System 85. Not to be confused with Jose's Chupacabra Beta: Mexican Edition which started the whole damn mess.

My OS needs more cowbell.:D

support the artist and buy their c.d

If you use that Loonix software you must be a software pirate or a hacker or a communist of some kind. Not paying for things is un-American.

Arists tend to make the majority of their money on concerts and merchandise then they do on CDs, so if you want to support your artist go see them and buy a Tshirt.

In fact they usually lose money doing live concerts; touring expenses amount to more than they get paid. They keep doing it to promote their cds. :grumpy:

This supports the record company itself far more, as far as I know. Many lesser-known artists favor filesharing as it gives them much needed exposure. I would never have heard of several artists were it not for my experience with the filesharing system in the past. As a result, I bought several cds that I never would have otherwise considered. $18 for a CD is too much for many people, especially considering that the manufacturing is comparable to casettes, which cost considerably less. I am unwilling to gamble $18 on artists that I am unfamiliar with.

It seems to me that this is a case where everyone is doing wrong, The artists and record companies charge too much for their product, some people distribute cheap illegally and the public buys it, those who make distributing software (torrents, edonkey, emule, etc.) open up the doors too much and without much information for users, people who put up files to be shared and downloaded by others don't care and don't inform others about copyrights or whether the file is legally public or not.

I installed utorrent and emule, did some searching around and found lots of stuff, most seems obviously not legal to download for free and what probably is OK is not labeled or marked so, there also seems to be risk of getting spyware along. The idea seems good but too easy to misuse. I wish some organization, university or whatever would put up a site where these software could be used legally with confidence, maybe something like the Gutenberg project.

Gutenberg project: Online collection of books whose exclusive rights have lapsed, or never existed. Sort of like searching the recycling bin for books. Obiviously you won't find many current books such as The Da Vinci Code, but has plenty of classics, like Abbot's Flatland.

go to mp3search.ru and pay .08-.10 cents a song and be happy....you just paid for the music and its legal to do so in Russia. Many citizens have been doing so cause they are scared of being sued by RIAA. whether your morals want you to pay 2 dollars a song to feel OK or 1 cent...filesharing in the land of the free can get you in Jail, buy the music from a foreign country and you are legit...

just fyi.
