Downtown Disney + Manbug

When these threads pop up, I have to wonder to myself: Why on earth are you trying to bring a knife into Disneyworld (in this example) or some other such vacation spot that CLEARLY outlines what is and isn't allowed in the parks? Why bother trying to take a knife on vacation in the first place?

As said, I try to carry a knife 24/7 on me especially on vacation or when I am into "unknown territory" or a not-familiar place, where emergencies are more likely to arise and the usefulness of a sharp tool is greatly increased to solve or address such unseen events.

Lol. I've got not much to add to the Disney thing ... but the last time I went on vacation my wife exclaimed, "why is it that every time we're in a hotel room, we have to fix something!" In my recent memory in different hotels ... shower handle fell off, bathtub drain didn't work right, hot/cold sink reversed.

Yes, I could call hotel maintenance for a 3 minute fix, but when you have a naked 5 year old running around the room, and you are the next one in to take the shower, it's easier yourself.

Fwiw, when on vacation I always have at least an edc knife, edc multitool, sharpener. I have no issues with packing it on checked luggage on flights or leaving it in the hotel room. I don't need the stuff all the time, but it's good to have eventual access to them.

so true. This is my gear for vacation trips, more than once it saved the day or spared hours of fixing stuff/calling for help.

Because everyone knows that bad guys won't bother you when you're on vacation, right? WTF!

Was just at Disneyland (Anaheim) a few days ago, and realized at the security checkpoint that I had my Squarehead still attached to my keyring. I had already ditched the folder I was carrying, but had forgotten about the Squarehead until security was already rustling through my bag at the checkpoint. I just sucked it up, and hoped it would blend in w/ the rest of my keys and keyring tools, and sure enough it escaped unnoticed. Like a scrub I ended up going through the same ordeal later in the evening, and got lucky again. Definitely not trying to push my luck a third time tho...

You think Disneyland is bad then imagine visting London, England (Great Britain)where they will arrest you for any knife that locks open.

I bring an Urban or UKPK when in the UK. Security bags it and gives it back when you are leaving high security sites. No issues on any of my visits ;)

What kind of organizer is that and where did you get it? I also carry most of what you have there when I go out of town and I like how you keep it all together.

So they take away a non locking folder and give it to you outside the airport?

Just mind boggling how these countries exist.

:p

Government buildings etc. free to carry everywhere else if it is non locking and sub 3". If one has a legitimate reason one can carry a locking folder or fixed blade (work related or when camping etc.)

It's an inexpensive travel pouch/bag designed for electronics, cables and batteries/lights I bought from a Chinese website. $4 shipped worldwide when I got them, I can't post a link here but the place is called "Gearbest" and it's a major Chinese distributor.

Search for "digital accessories storage pouch" on Google itself, or in the search bar of such website.
It's durable and really nice, comes in different colors!

My understanding is you can still get arrested as in GB all the interpetations up to each individual court.

I have a friend who lives in London and was pulled over by police. They found a carpetenters kinife (the type that retracts and locks out with replacable blade) in his tool chest in the back of the car (he is a plumber). They arrested him and he has been through 9 months of court procedings because they simply won't drop the charge. The reason being each case is investgated and deteremined "as the court sees fit". There is no real law in place like it exists here in the USA.

Years ago before I was into knives I was at Disney world in Orlando with my brother and a friend. I had and old American made old timer, and a Gerber paraframe on me.I didn't think about the security check until I had already walked a long way from my car to the park. When I got there I noticed the security check at the gate. So instead of walking all the way back to my car I quickly hid them in bush. I ended up leaving the park forgetting about them. I didnt like the fact I had forgotten them, but I was a little more angry I had left that old-timer.

"Why bother trying to take a knife on vacation in the first place?" That's seems like a strange question for a forum devoted to knives.

Sad to hear that everything is going further and further towards 'Police State'. We are seeing the same trend starting up here in Canada, though we are not as far along perhaps as our friends south of the '49th.

It's important to remember the cost of real freedom, as I see it, is the acceptance of some risk, not a total loss of civil liberty, personal responsibility, and privacy. You cannot guard against all outcomes, and we all survived up until this point without having witnessed the "Disneyland Swiss Army Knife Massacre".

Can you imagine if the founding fathers, of either the USA, or Canada for that matter, were told you couldn't have a folding knife on your person in 2017? They'd think the system they tried to build was a giant waste of time.

Glad my kids aren't into Disney, because their policies are lame.

I dunno, I think they'd be more interested in allowing a nongovernmental entity decide whom and what to allow on their property without the government stepping in.

But they'd probably scratch their heads at why anyone would ban pocket knives from their property any more than they'd ban left-handed redheads.
