Dozier wins again...

The checkering on my Doziers' is done by Julie Marx, (360) 380-1903, CheckerMarx@compuserve.com. I always had better luck calling her than emailing.

She says for checkering G-10 is better than the Micarta Mr. Dozier normally uses. I believe G-10 is stronger/tougher and therefore the points on the checkering wear longer on G-10 than on Micarta. I've had my New York Special about a year, use it daily and the checkering shows no wear.

Mr. Dozier had no problem building my New York Special using the G-10 I supplied him. Upon making it I had him ship it to Julie Marx and she checkered it.

Ms. Marx has various grades of sharpness in her different checkering patterns. She has also checkered my Dozier Agent. I much prefer the significantly sharper checkering pattern I chose for the Special. At the time she called it Sample Pattern Type III. She will ship you a sample of the different patterns. You may wish to consider sending your order and G-10 to Mr. Dozier, while you have Ms. Marx send you her samples, and you pick the checkering pattern you prefer.

Before discovering that I needed a very sharp checkering pattern I did tests on my Agent, which had the dullering checkering. I used copious amounts of oil and soap on the handle. Dozier knives don't have much of a guard due to technical reasons involving his fantastic Kydex sheaths. The tests can be summerized by saying I was always worried that my hand would slip onto the blade when stabbing into a RR tie. The much sharper Sample Pattern Type III solved that problem.

Don't Dozier's CUT!

Take care,

Jimmy didn't say the odometer was .9 km. That would have been 100 yards short of 1 km.

Jimmy said the odometer was "just shy" of 1 km., eg. 20 or 30 yards shy of 1 km. He expressly stated it was at least .95 km.

Thanks Bug

Hard to get much support with this post! At this point, I would much rather discuss the Dozier skinning machines, rather than a hunting experience. The people involved know the story is accurate, as do the people who know me that I've told.

At this point, to be honest, I don't care if the caribou was 15 feet away, 150lbs, suffering from gout and caught in a bear trap!!! It is dead and eaten now! And the sausages were delicious!!!

Does anyone have a knife that has performed the skinning etc, tasks as well as this Dozier?

Arriving soon through cyberspace will be the two Dozier Woodcraft style knives discussed earlier. I sent digitial images to Marion David Poff ,who I believe will post them to his web site soon. Dozier knives cut, cut, and cut some more. But I don't think they would dare cut a good bug....right, Bug?

I just received my first Dozier, also my first custom, last week. It is a modified version of his older #6 design. I asked for a 5-1/2" blade with around 3/4" guards on top and bottom and, after some discussion, he made it that way. I'm not that familiar with his usual sheath designs, but this one works beautifully despite the added guards.

I absolutely love this knife! I'll have to post some pictures soon. It represents my ideal of a utility/defensive knife. The reality is even better than I had hoped. The balance is perfect, it feels great in my hand, and it cuts like a chain saw!

I spoke with Mr. Dozier yesterday and asked the question: Will you make the Woodcraft style knife? His answer was "sure." I believe he will provide Micarta, leather, stag ( he still has "some" )or other handle requested if possible.

As a side note to this thread, Bob indicated he was working on a desing for Mr. Steve Dick, Editor-In-Cheif of Tactical Knives. The knife will be availavle to the public once tested and completed. Linda is working on a website now to illustrate some of the details. Intestering. Put a master craftsman together with a professional forrester ( anomg other things ) and the end result should be...another choice for a great tool. Also, Bob will have available in the not too distant future two new knives, one with Stag handle and one with Madagascar Ebony!! Wow...Madagascar, a former French island colony in the Indian Ocean 240 miles S.E. of Africa. Ebony...very dense, black hardwood sure to hold up well under most circumstances. These two offerings will appear in a flyer issured by A.G.Russell Knives and on his website (I assume).

A most interesting thread for me, one of the best I have had the opportunity to participate in. I understand how Mr. Jet's friend..the shooter..found more interest in his knife than the meat it provided for the table or the shot that got it there. Anything can happen.

Why do I get the feeling that Mr. D is going to be inundated with woodcraft orders?
Those are exceptional!

Intestering? Meaning, in tests administered by a tester?

Good news. Steven Dick is a very practical guy when it comes to knives, not wow'ed by gee whiz designs that look cool but are impractical, and so therefore, I look forward to seeing what Steven had Bob whip up for him.

Well the tip of my index finger got lost FF.
Just 2 cm. It's grown back.

Hi Rdangere: Thanks for making my thought about the word "intestering" clearer. Whenever Steve Dick writes an evaluation on a knife, I sit up straight, pay attention and re-read the article at least once. I find his evaluations to be fair, understandable, quite professional and very helpful to me. You might say I respect the person a lot.

bug...that was a funny post!! THANKS for the courage and the results of your test. Glad to hear you are OK.
