I just checked Bob Dozier's web site, and his prices have gone up. The Professional Guide's Knife has gone from $165 to $195 and the Straight Hunter has gone from $145 to $185. The PGK has gone up to $195 on AG Russell's site as well. Those were the only ones that I looked at, but I would assume that the others have gone up as well.

They are still under priced. They were very underpriced before.

Bob Dozier offers some of the best bang for the buck in the custom knife world.

I would not say they are underpriced. They are priced about right. Hand made things are hard to price just right. If you price higher, your orders diminish over time volume wise. But you make more per knife, so for the time invested you make more per hour. But at the end of the year, you may make less total money, depending on your backlog and extra hours per week spent on making knives. But you only want to put in so many hours in a day. So you have to price right to make your hours work for you. Price it too high, and you could have time on your hands. Bob's knives of which I own several are awesome, but so are a lot of factory knives out there. I appreciate his touch over those though. But where maybe I bought 2 in the past, I might now buy one.

Dozier's knives are still well worth the price. I've noticed that other makers have increased their price structure as well.;)

AG Russell has been trying to get Bob to raise his prices for some time now. He posted a thread a while ago and took some heat for it.

Read it here.

When I saw that they (Bob & AG) were producing a semi hand made collaboration at the same price as Bob's fully hand made pieces it reminded me of that thread as well.

His knives were priced right and are still priced right if they keep selling. As long as demand exceeds supply they are priced right, Chris Reeve did it and they still can't make enough Sebenza's.

Bob's knives are so popular in part because they are a great product for a great price, it'll be interesting to see what happens.

and although I don't know the prices of all his knives, I noticed that the ones I've looked at in the past did not go up.

The Ranger KM1 is still 325.

I bought a Freedom Fighter for 330 at the New York Show and was quite happy with the knife as well as the price.

I thought is was a big increase. By the time the NY show rolled around, the small utility went up from $145.00 to $175.00! That's 20%!!

20% is a rather big uptick. I went for it anyway and love this knife. I'd love it better at $145.00, though. :)

I don't have any problem with Bob raising his prices. His knives are worth every penny and more. I've bought a lot of knives over the last few years, and few even approach the overall quality and performance of a Dozier.

Let’s put things into perspective. When you buy a Dozier, you get a blade with awesome cutting efficiency, Bob's legendary heat-treated D2, and a very high quality Kydex sheath. You might get two out of three of those qualities from many custom makers. Few makers will deliver all three at Bob’s prices.

Say that you order a knife from Wild Willie Shlumaker and end up with a less than wonderful sheath. You wind up sending the knife to a custom Kydex maker, live without the knife while it’s having the new sheath made, and pay the price of shipping. That’s too much hassle and extra expense for me. The last thing I want to do when I get a great new knife is to send it away in the mail.

One more thing. Bob makes excellent convex grinds. :D

Well, that's the price of a handmade knife. There are new guys out there charging more than Bob charges now, which is fine -- they're all doing work that knowledgeable buyers are willing to pay for. If Bob or any knifemaker is selling everything he makes before he makes it, his prices are "too low". If he hasn't been raising prices all along, then when the crunch comes, they take a noticeable jump. I'm real happy with the Canoe I got at the NY show :D

Troz, don't dispair, just wait another month or two!
It'll be worth it.
They are still alot of knife for the price.

I see the current price of the K1 went up from (as I recall) $145 to $185.

I ordered one in desert ironwood (+$40), and a special sheath (+$25) a while back. Should take delivery in March, hopefully at the original price!

:D

Here's my $0.02...

Bob makes some of the very best "working" knives to be had anywhere at any price. His blades are the sharpest I have ever come across. They stay sharp longer than any other knife I own or have ever used. The resharpen easily. His handles are very comfortable. His kydex sheaths are superb... as good as anyone's.

If I had to choose only one knife to use for the rest of my days (and thank goodness I don't! :D ) it would be a Dozier. In fact, it would be my Dozier Yukon Pro Skinner. It has many years of hard use under its belt and is still the best hunting knife I have ever seen. I think I was the original Dozier proponent on these forums (going back to 1998) but I have seen Bob's fans grow in leaps and bounds since then.

There is a very good reason for that... Bob makes an awesome knife! He was due to raise hie very low prices sometime. His knives are STILL an excellent value! Buy one and use it hard... you'll come to understand and love them like the rest of us Dozier fans. Then, you'll want another one, and another... :D

I spoke with Mr. Dozier a year ago about this matter and it has been lots of years without any increase. Just about every knife is more expensive now than it was 4-5 years ago. Look at cold steel. They have had significant increases over the years. CRK has done it, SOG has, Al Mar has, AG Russell has. Everybody does.

The difference with Dozier, is his knives perform better than most, if not all, others. They are still worth every penny. I also remember the thread from Mr Russell, and I agree. Supply vs demand. Bob has a longer wait than he used to, so demand must be up. Plus let's not forget about inflation!

I too will continue to buy Dozier knives. Though with the longer wait, I'll probably try AG or knifeart first!!

All the new prices on his hunting knives went into effect about a week and a half ago,IIRC. I cannot blame him,he makes the best work knife out there and also does the absolute best heat treat on D2. Nothing compares. I've got a slim outdoorsman w/ jigged bone that I picked up from work, and wear it all day,EVERY day. Would i pay 40 bucks extra to pick up another one? Yep...and then some.

DAMN!

I have to stop hanging out here, I just went and order a Dozier Razorback from Knifeart :D

Figured I ought to get one before Larry realized Bob had a price increase ;)

I don´t have any personal experience with Dozier knives, but since I´ve heard nothing but praise about them, I believe the prices are still very good. Just compare his prices to those of some manufacturers - and I´d rather buy good customs than most production knives even more so if the prices are similar.
