I just picked up one of these knives from the batch of first runs. In a nutshell, I like it! It is large enough to get a good grip on, yet small enough to not be uncomfortable in the pocket. It is certainly a study little guy. Operation is smooth and lockup is sure. I love the deep pocket clip and grippy G-10 texture.

Pics in a minute...

I like the looks of the HEAT/F. It reminds me of a pointier Spyderco Techno.

How hard is it to open and close?

Can you close it easily, without having to hire a stunt double for your thumb?

Nice knife. I would have preferred the OD green/black.blade color combo like the HEST. I also see they lost the Roto-block on this one. I like that.

Any chance of some comparison pics? Maybe next.to the HEST if you have that one.

Great comparison pics. Thanks for posting. How does it feel in hand compared to the HEST? The handle looks short but the broadness appear to fill the hand nicely.

The HEAT/F fills the hand better than Spyderco Techno due to larger handle. The blade is shorter. Needs work to become smooth.

I carried my new DPx HEAT/F folder all day today (10+ hours). I alternated between jeans change pocket and regular pocket. It carries very well and deep. Size and price wise it matches up directly against Spyderco Techno. I paid about the same for each.

HEAT/F is heavier at 4.12 ounces vs. 3.52 ounces for the Techno. This was surprising since Techno has all titanium handles whereas HEAT/F is G10 on one side. The titanium slab on the HEAT/F is much thicker and heavier. While the blade on the HEAT/F does not have the big Spydie hole to reduce weight it is a little shorter and the bottle opener reduces the weight a little. Lock up is at about 20% on both.

Techno has a longer 2.5" blade of CTS-XHP whereas HEAT/F is 2.25" of Sleipner. Blade thickness is the same at 0.18".

The handle on the HEAT/F is a good 0.25" longer and the reason becomes clear when you hold it because you can get all four fingers on the handle but on the Techno the pinkie goes underneath. Also, the G10 affords a much better grip since Techno has no texturing on the titanium handles.

HEAT/F gets extra points for the bottle / wave opener and a robust glass breaker but needs a little more time to become smoother (already better today than yesterday).

Techno is buttery smooth right now, is lighter and takes up a little less space in the change pocket. Also, due to slick titanium on both sides extraction is smooth.

Can't go wrong with either. Tough to choose just one. I'd love to see the same size as HEAT/F due to great grip but thin textured titanium handles on both sides. Wait, I have one with full titanium and a flipper but short handle. Itt's called the Curtiss F3 Compact and it's about the same size but costs 3.5 times more!

I think it feels great in the hand for the small cutting jobs I normally do. The pinky feels a bit left out, but as you said, there's plenty of handle for the other three fingers to grab a great hold.

Hasn't left my pocket in two weeks including my dress pants, jeans and sweat pants. Great knife. Very good feel to it.

I like the design and it comes in at a good price range. Very good size as well if you are looking for a smaller knife that is nice and beefy. I like heft to my knives or at least that is what I have leaned to lately so the titanium framelock is always a plus even though I do still appreciate lightweight knives as well.

I can't tell from the angle of the picture, but is the HEAT the same height as the HEST? The pictures make it look like the HEAT blade is wider.

I can dig the size on it, but the price is a little steep considering that the knife is a pint sized HEST. I still really like the looks of it, though, and if it had a reversible clip I could actually fork over the cash to get one.

Just forward of the bottle opener / wave the width is almost identical at 1.15". HEAT/F looks wider due its stubby blade when compared to HEST/F.
