I can shake the lock on my HEST and hear the rock. It's pretty noticable. When I put the knife to an object i can usually hear the tang slap against the stop pin. Like you, i'm not worried about something minor, but I can actually feel the lock move under my fingers when being used. I gave it about 6 months to settle in and it never did. Nice that i'm getting some stellar service now, though.
MQQN: that may be something just with your special edition. My limited Red Hest from where i bought it from (not sure if i can say or if they're a paying member or whatever), DEFINATELY had coating over the lockface, which i thought was very strange when i bought it, but i figured the lockbar would wear in and it would be fine.

Sorry for the crappy iphone picture, but you can still make out on the left side of the tang where the coating still hasn't worn away. The entire blade was coated when i got it. When open and locked, the lockbar goes all the way in right up to where the coating isn't worn away.
I hate to disagree, but DPx Gear is indeed a very real knife company. I have no record of any communications regarding your knife problem. Contact me today with your address and I will send a replacement out before close of business of today. ryp@dpxgear.com
I have a second gen HEST and it developed up down bladeplay less than a month after i bought it. Requested service multiple times, no reply. Even asked on the facebook page (nicely, might i add) and my post was deleted. DPX will never get any more of my money despite how much i like the design.
Crap company, crap service.
......That's odd because I've contacted them several times and I've always received a reply be it on their Facebook page or customer service email.
.......Did you contact dpx gear or lionsteel? Dpx gear isn't a real knife company, just a designer who's knives are made by lionsteel. Try them.
I hate posts like this because my response will sound like I am being a di*k but trust me when I say I am not. But either you are flat out lying or.........I don't know what else to add to that. From what I know from actual REAL friends, meaning people I see every day of my life....not just "internet friends"....is that RYP and his girls and fellas at DPx Gear will TAKE CARE OF YOU.
I can't see RYP or one of the crew just simply ignoring your comments. Something just doesn't make sense. I don't want to speak for Mr. Pelton myself but I know this guy well enough from a personal experience that I won't talk about here.....to know that he takes care of problems. He WANTS YOU TO COME BACK and buy from him again.
Heaven forbid, if what you say is true, that you shoot an email right to him. He's about the most easiest knife company owner to get a hold of and he will take care of you. *shaking my head* I am sure it will work out if you let it. But then you will owe him an apology IMO.![]()
If you read the rest of the thread, you'd see the issue has been resolved and an apology has been issued. You know what I hate? Posts that make wild assumptions before reading.
BTW the red G10 is nice.
I have a question about a certain knife you may have sir.I've been collecting and using knives for years and have been a member of bladeforums for a few years as well. I rarely post anything, but this time around I feel like I have to.
I bough HEST 1 folder couple of years back when they just came out. For those who don't know: Hest 1 is titanium framelock with titanium and G10 on non-locking side. There were some conversations about quality control issues back then, but I examined my knife and found no apparent issues.
I liked the folder just fine, carried it a few time, did some minor cutting around the house (nothing heavier than cardboard boxes and a few pieces of rope). Then I moved on to new knives and HEST was seating in the drawer.
Yesterday I took it out of the drawer and was planning to carry it. When I opened it, it seemed to have developed a serious vertical blade play. I could not believe my eyes. The I took a closer look, the titanium lock-side slab was moving and sliding from under the blade whenever a slightest pressure was applied to the spine of the blade. I tried it to open ad close the knife hoping that is was just a bad lock engagement, but the next time I applied light pressure on the spine of the blade, the knife folded as if the lock was made out of wet paper towel, not titanium. I honestly never seen anything like that in any quality knife.
Did anyone else experience anything like this in a decent titanium framelock?
