DPX HEAT/F 3D Ti w/ Niolox

I guess this is the best thread to ask this, instead of creating a new one.

I am looking to buy a Heat, are the differences in the steels worth the cost differential, or is it primarily which looks you prefer, and whether those said looks will allow me to personally justify the upgrades?

Is there a common "sweet spot" where people feel that the quality in steel/scales vs. price doesn't warrant going to the next tier?

I have a HEST 2.0 folder in D-2. I also have a HEST II fixed blade in Niolox. I don't think an average user will even notice a difference in the steels or maybe I just got a freak D-2 blade. Niolox might be a tad easier to sharpen .

I still think the best HEST ever was the original fixed blade by Rowen in 1095 with the prybar anyway.

D-2 is one of my favorite steels and so far I have seen no real advantage the Niolox might have over it. My D-2 blade is coated so I can't compare the anti-stain properties.

As to your other question, if I go above the S30V, VG-10, Elmax level it better be a damn good knife.

There are no worries when handling a wet G-10 HEST folder.
