DPx HEST 2.0 or Spyderco Tuff?

Own the dpx hest 2.0. I have handled and pocketed the Tuff. Tuff is my next. Really the fit and finish id up there with the zt 0560.

I've had a hest, traded it, had an 0560, traded it too. My tuff isn't going anywhere though.... :D

It's the smf I've always wanted. ;)

I own the HEST2.0. I have had zero problems with it. It is a perfect edc size for me and a good tool IMO. If you are going to use the knife hard I would go with 3v over D2. I have never owned or even held a Tuff but I have pretty much loved ever Spyderco I have ever owned. If you end up not liking either knife I would think you will get a better return on the Tuff. meaning you would most likely lose more cash if you try to resell a HEST2.0.

I had a Hest 2.0 as one of my first heavy-duty knives. I didn't like (and still don't) the rotating lock thingie, and the blade was so short and so thick that I felt it was just not my cup of tea. It's a good pry-bar. The lock was a bit sticky although seemed to get better after a tiny bit of exercise. Do keep in mind, however, that I love the Spyderco Techno, with its short, thick CTS-XHP blade a lot and have owned four ANIB. I've never carried a Techno either; I just go through a lot of knives and these are all pass-throughs. They make great trading material, because the Techno is a Taiwan-made knife and is put together like a champ. Some of Spydercos best models are made in Taiwan...as is the TUFF AND the Gayle Bradley, another favorite of mine.
The HEST was REALLY clunky; the Techno is not...IMO.
I have a NIB TUFF in the safe. It's beautiful, but it's a two-hand opener, unless you're really strong. The detent is unreal. I admire the quality of the build, and it's a CPM-3V blade-steel which is outstanding. I'm saving this one for the Zombie-attack. I could take down a house with that thing. The Tuff is about the size of two or three HESTs...all rolled into one, but the quality is there. The TUFF has a Chris Reeve Integral lock and an oversized pivot; a wonderful folder.
I love the TUFF; have no use for the HEST. Keep in mind that I've never used either one, and am just speaking about what I consider to be the quality of the build, the basic design and usefulness of the folder.
Don't flame me, folks. This stuff is ALL opinions, and worth what you pay for it. :)

$240-ish for a robust piece of 3V. ...

I "only" buy off of the Exchange, and always go for ANIB.
I paid $200 for my NIB TUFF, and there was one for $190 a couple of days ago.

2 SHOT mentioned that:
"I thought read that the Tuff was extremely hard to disengage the lock bar and was part of the design...could be wrong on this."

2 SHOT is right; it's tough to open, tough to disengage...but all by design. Designer Ed Schempp had in mind a folding "fixed blade" that could be expected to take both hands to operate. Or so I've read...

I have both. If you're looking for a blade just to have I'd go for the Tuff. It's truly a hard use blade, locks up hard and offers multiple hand positions for various uses. It's a bit bigger and maybe a bit less practical overall. I like the HEST as an EDC. The blade size is perfect for a folder although the blade is a bit thick to be a good slicer. The lockup is solid, the roto-lock... Meh. Not really necessary. Bottle opener makes it pretty cool for EDC and a glass beaker could come in handy.

I find the HEST to be more useful and the Tuff to just be plain cooler and really, probably tougher.

Seems like a unanimous decision in this thread; get the TUFF!
