DPx HEST/F

Hello
This may sound like a newby question... but i am so...

What is the purpuse of the sqaure groove on the spine?

Thx
WH

On the plus side, I got my production HEST/F this morning.

All issues have been fixed, apparently. Lock up is solid, tip is protected, clip has plenty of retention, looks to be a really great knife.

I am going to take Mr. Pelton up on his offer of tuning my LE, but I am going to use the snot out of this one.

Trolling and off-topic posts have been moved to a more appropriate location.

Eventually, I will tire of moving trolling posts from HEST/F threads and will simply infract offenders and delete their posts.

"I am going to take Mr. Pelton up on his offer of tuning my LE"

Do you know you will be the 4th person? I feel like the Maytag repairman.

Whyheard: I created "The square groove on the spine" on the fixed blade hest as a reverse lashing point, thumb grip, potlifter and opener (as in the beer kind) It has taken on a life of its own but if you hold a fixed blade HEST right next to a folder you see they have the identical profile (other than the prybar)

some home everyday survival use for the HEST :D

Sliced bread:eek:? I think I'm sold:D.

Though how does that D2 edge hold up to cutting food? I've used Dozier D2 on food before, but that was after I polished up the entire blade. Still interested in knowing how other D2 holds up against corrosion. And is that coating DLC?

coating on the LE versions ..CrCN Titanium Carbon sputter coatings,(Physical vapor deposition TiCrCN) and the production version .. Milspec Phosphate coating,
it cuts real well, the problem on cutting the bread is the short blade, therefore it needs to go around the loaf, if the bread is big that is
on cheese, almost all knives stick to it, and make cutting somewhat difficult
cutting the rest , like salami, meat, and so on, is piece of cake
of course, cutting potatoes with a knife this thick is not cutting, but splitting :D
corrosion..haven't had problems so far, but i take care of my blades

Managed to break the clip on mine within 24hrs. Customer service has been good so far. Should have a new one this week, and they said that solid clips (without the cutouts) are on the way. Should be in within a month. My only complaint is the weak clip, in comparison to the overbuilt knife.

soo, it seems it worked outstanding for food prep, but the bottle opener failed you at some point, as the rum bottle is untouched? :p

nice looking knife, I'll know soon enough if I need to bang my head repeatedly against the computer table for dropping my pre-order on these ;)

" Hey BRJ, the HEST/F was upset he had opened only rum for the last weeks, and no more of his fixed brother favorite, Jack D. ; it did open it eventually, as I convinced him the rum was way better :p "

no way, man, the HEST is too hi-tech looking for rum, I'm tellin ya, it would simply melt in the landscape near a JD bottle :D
btw, speak of the devil... it is right here and it's a helluva nice looking knife
review to follow :)
