I'm not sure I understand your post... are you calling for ideas for a dpx product or mod to the HEST or either/both?

I think he means to have a contest for people to desgin tools for the DPX line.

I think it is the result of this morning's discussion/exchange between DOC-CANADA and me about the HEST and it abhorrent ;) bottle-opener. :D

In the thread, "What I'd like to see...."

People are very polarized about the bottle opener - who would have thought it to draw out such strong emotions!? :-)

Very true.
Unfortunately, I feel more strongly about it every time I use it. :o

Why'd ya think. Its not an emergency situation unless you can't open your beer :)

I don't get it because it's completely out of the way, certainly doesn't affect the toughness of the blade... you never even consider it while in use-never once have I used my HEST and even realized it was there (other than when it comes to opening bottles of course)

I like the beer bottle opener. It just doesn't get in the way even though it really serves no purpose to me except to impress Third World locals and give your thumb a bite in hard push cuts. In all honesty, if I looked in most anyone's "survival", "travel" or "Tactical" bag I'd find a lot of gadgetry that is plain useless but it's there because someone thought they may need to roll a joint, open a beer, kill a jihadist, or disembowel and elephant somewhere along the way. Bottom line is most stuff we all carry is useless in real situations.

I find the prybar very usefull in day to day stuff, didn't think it would be but I use it for stuff all the time. infact today I had to pop off some clips on are pool and used it to get under and pop them off. haven't pryed anything major but I do use it alot.

Popping beer, soda and soup can lids are what I use it for-usually my hands are too sore to crack the popper without alot of putsing.

Well said, Jeff.

I said it in the other thread, and I'll repeat it here. Unfortunately (maybe?), I use the bottle opener on my HEST more than I use the blade to cut. So, I guess you could almost say for me it is a bottle opener that has an amazing talent for cutting. :D

Correct me if Im wrong BUT don't alot of the beers in the 3rd world need a bottle open to open, or are they twist off there also

I used mine tonight. I had my truck at a buddies to do a couple of things, and afterward we had a beer in the garage, and told lies. Well, he couldn't find an opener, so I pulled my HEST and cracked them. I think Jeff said it in a previous thread, that the opener is more of a conversation starter than anything, and it worked like a charm. My buddy wanted to check out my knife after I used it, so I introduced him to ESEE knives and let him handle it and get a feel for it.

It doesn't take away from the knife and I think it adds to it.

amen to that!

far as I know, twist off bottle tops are more or less only found in north america.
everywhere else seems to use traditional crown caps.

I have no issues with the bottle opener. I don't use it but it doesn't get in my way either.

Not a fan of the prybar. I can see where it could be nice to have but it pokes me in my spare tire. Keeps me from carrying the knife alot. I'd grind it off but my HEST is one of the pre-production versions so I don't want to screw with it.

Might have to get a regular version and play with it.

All the imports have pop offs, MOST domestics have twist offs. Sam Adams and a lot of craft beers being exceptions.
