I am not sure if this is the right forum for this question but if not, I don't know where it should go. I purchased a set of Dr. Darom's books on knives with the exception of the book "Art and Design in Modern Custom Folding Knives" which I was told has been sold out for years. I was lucky enough to find what I thought was a original copy on eBay. I purchased it and when it arrived today I noticed it was published by White Star Publishers and the other three were published by Saviolo Publishing. Though it looks a lot like the other three, the page quality does not even seem to be as good. This has me wondering if this is a original copy or a reprint or second edition. Based on what I had to pay for it I would think it should be a original, first edition like all the others. I thought all four in the set were published by Saviolo Publishing. Since I am sure many on this forum have these books I was wondering if someone could check their book and let me know if it is like this one.

Mine is from White Star publishing as well. A second edition I believe. And I agree, its not of the same quality as the Saviolo editions. However, its still one of my two or three favorite knife books. :)

My copy is from White Star Publishers also. I bought it brand new at Hastings. I thought maybe David just switched publishing companies and then came back?
Anyway check out pages 128 and 129 in The Great Collections. Yours Truly.

I just checked my copies and the first printing of all four books in the series was by Saviolo.

David Darom frequents the Custom Knives forum. If you post this query there, he may well see it.

What you have are 2nd (and in one or 2 cases 3rd) edition printings. They're not as high quality printings as the original, but for the 20 and 25$ pricetags new on amazon they're well worth the money, i've got 3 on the way currently in the mail myself actually.

Hi guys, I just saw this Thread from long ago, well, all "White Star" printings of my
1st 4 books are cheap forgeries (made in Italy), printed for $3 a copy in China
and sold to USA distributors who were not aware of this but did not ask questions
when getting the books at $7 each....
The forgers printed thousands of low quality copies and
then declared bankruptcy!!! to avoid any possible charges....

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

So now there are not only fake copies of knives out there but also fake copies of Knife Books? Next step will be even worse fakes of the fakes...
