Turns out he didn't start making knives until a couple years after I graduated, so he would have just been filling teeth at the time. 
The quality is insane when you consider how challenging making a good traditional slipjoint is and then add in the fact that he really hasn't been making knives seriously for even a decade yet.
But just look at the list of modern legends he's learned from!
I definitely need to get on his list.
