'Dragon Boat' - By Stuart Branson, with Loriendesign

Man, that turned out great! Thanks for posting the results..... :)

Beautiful design and exemplary execution by Mr. Branson.

thanks, fellas!

Thank you very much :)

Although I had every intention of maintaining stewardship over this fine blade in perpetuity, I am honoured to be sending it on a voyage overseas to a new home where I know it will be appreciated and cared for.
With knives, it's often 'easy come, easy go' for me but this is a special piece that I know I will sorely miss.
Knowing that its new steward is someone I admire and respect dulls the pain :)

 Whoa! That thing is amazing. When I first glanced at the drawing I thought to myself "meh, not my cup of tea, but I love these WIPs and Lorien's designs are always nice." Boy was I wrong. That is one crazy off the hook beautiful big honking chopper knife thing. Dragon Boat is definitely the right name. I can imagine Haida warriors crossing the Hecate Strait and raiding the BC coast with swords like those (if they had differential hardened steels of course). It is beautiful, imposing, functional, everything. Totally my cup of tea.

Somethings need to be realized in order to be understood.

I've tried like fiddy times to post in this thread, and each time I end up scrapping what I wrote because it just comes off sounding lame...

Stuart nailed this. In a way I never could. I'm so happy to see this come to fruition, and even a little relieved that it's not entirely my baby anymore. Don't think it ever really was, and that's cool, too. It's also cool as hell to know that there's a friend like Lorien out there that not only came up with the concept of this project, but was kind enough to offer it to me, too!

Mine is still hanging from a hook in the ceiling of the shop. Not satisfied with the hamon after HT, as it's not what I was shooting for, and I agonized over just running with it because the effect was so dark unique...

Then my head moved in a totally different direction and I've found a passion that doesn't lean anywhere near where this blade lay. I still toy with the idea of returning to this, but now it's got to be something in an entirely different vein, I think. We shall see!!!

Stuart, you make the knives I wish I could make, bud. I think Lorien brought me into the folds of this project because he knows how much I revere the work of Don Fogg -and this hints not just a little bit at his work, methinks- but, you, Stuart, seem to channel Don in projects like this. Don't take that the wrong way - your work is YOUR work, and there's no doubt about that. However, I don't think I'm the only one that would be willing to lay the mantle of his successor upon you.

Great work, man. Love it.

Lorien, you kick ass, bro.

Matthew, first of all YOU kick ass!

Secondly, I really do hope you finish yours- you are the reason that this pattern came into being in the first place :)

Dragonboat such an effective design in that it really does fulfill its mandate, and as such, I'd be happy to see others try it on for size.

As for Stuart, he always makes me consider Don Fogg's work, and this piece was, in a way, influenced by Fogg's Yakuza Bowie.

Part of the reason I was willing to part with this piece is because I know you have one in the works that would fill the void. Sounds like you might have something even cooler in mind, though. Can't wait to see it :D
