No problem with the closure....altho other off-topic threads have run longer.
But.....I think the closure of a thread should be announced and explained ...and signed by the moderator making the decision.

AGAIN : no objection to the action....just the style. Simply a desire to make the forums work better

it was moved to the Tactical forum. It would have been nice for a wormhole or something I guess...there is a little note above the post that says it was moved, but apparently everyone seems to miss it.

oh well...be prepared for this thread to be locked and moved to the suggestions forum..

It is not a matter of whether or not you are paranoid, it is a matter of whether or not you are paranoid enough.

Better post the url of where that thread went before this one gets locked..

If you have an idea or opinion on how collapsable batons should be tested please post them here.

Thanks,

Frankly.....not a subject that I find exciting

Just think that the "behind the scenes" stuff should have a degree of transparency.

no worries

As far as closing / moving an off topic thread, there really is no explanation needed for that, but I agree that the moderators should announce where it's being moved to and who is closing it. I strive to do that everytime I do so.

But, Yekim is right, there is a note at the top of the now closed thread saying where it was moved to, so finding it again shouldn't be a problem.

Folks, let's think before we post, and cut down on the cross forum posting, that way we wouldn't have to lock threads in the first place. Remember, you are the first step in making these forums run smooth and having good content.

I'm the guilty party and will take the constructive criticsm to heart. By way of explanation I'd seen James and Spark post numerous gentle hints about fully using the available forums by directing germain traffic there rather than here. Figured most everyone knew why stuff is being moved plus the notice. Never realized folks were missing it. So I will emulate James and post a detailed explanation with each redirection. Most I've found, not unexpectedly, garner more "action" in their new homes than here.

P.S. I think I have to disagree on it getting more traffic there...

Don't worry about a detailed explanation, just a one or two sentence note stating why it's being moved. Locking a thread is another matter...

Yek,

Keep in mind that you started the same thread simultaneously in different forums. That can work for you or against you. In the early days of bulletin boards such practices were heavily frowned upon.

Here the whole reason for establishing specialized forums is to concentrate like discussions under dedicated pages. If everyone posted everything here what with our volume we'd have a free for all. As folks learn to use the daily post review they'll be drawn to topics that pique their interest regardless of what forum they're in. Also they in time begin to identify with certain forums and check back there each logon. This is where we're trying to go.

With experience folks use more and more features of the system. And therefore you should garner more constructive results to topics posted in applicable forums. Posting things here for "insurance" in the hopes of catching replies simply because this forum sees more overall traffic than any other defeats the purpose of the specialized forums. Too it can be taken, and please this is not meant or to be taken as a comment directed at you, as a novice or uninformed crude practice analogous to the use of all upper caps which is commonly referred to as "shouting". Here I understand the motivation and as friendly forumites we make do. But in other areas on the 'Net such offenses garner blunt insulting flames. Instead of flames here we have moderators who try to keep the forum topical alignment as clean as possible (among other things). The General forum is for what doesn't fit elsewhere. No more; no less.

Hope this makes sense to you.
