I was considering buying a white FRN Dragonfly and was wondering if the integral clip was strong/durable enough to use as a money clip? Is it fracture prone?
Thanks, Dave

I wouldn't call it fracture prone, and FRN in general is pretty durable stuff, but there is no practical way of adjusting the clip tension. Unless you carry a pretty fair stack of bills, it may not clip tightly enough to hold them together. If you carry any credit cards foled in with the bills, the reinforcing ribs by the pivot may warp the plastic over time.

This is a little off topic but I have a first gen. Endura and I've always wondered why they have that reinforcing rib at the pivot and successive models did away with it?

I wish I could tell you, but I don't have a clue. The only thing I can think of is the rib may have been needed to get the nylon to flow into the clip portion of the mold. Once the molded clip was gone, the rib was no longer needed. That is pure speculation on my part.

Thanks for input. I guess I'm way too curious.

The white FRN Dragonfly is a beautiful knife and an excellent user.

The FRN clip isn't overly prone to fracture, although I've found that FRN may become more brittle in very cold weather (Ohio just had a -35 degree Fahrenheit cold spell here a few weeks ago, for example). As Yablonowitz mentioned, the tension also isn't adjustable. As long as you find the right combination of bills to fit it right and don't plan on using it in your freezer, I think it would certainly suffice.

In the realm of knives as money clips, I sometimes use a Cricket or Boker Subcom; usually I just carry a plain sterling silver money clip that belonged to my great grandfather.

I have used a dragonfly for over 10 years. The clip is very durable. I agree the tension is not the greatest, but it is enough to stay clipped to my pocket or waist band while doing physical activity such as mountain biking.
