'sup guys. first post in the Spydie forum. :D

i think want a full flat grind. i'm leaning towards the Dragonfly because i like the choils and the lock on the Dragonfly better, but the 3 inch blade length of the Tenacious is more appealing than what is basically a 1.5 inch cutting surface on the Dragonfly.

i know the obvious answer is the Caly3, but it doesn't fit my budget.

or should i just get a Byrd Raven since it has the longer blade and the choils, and sacrifice the full flat grind and the lockback?

someone help me out here. my money is burning a hole in my pocket. :p

Tenacious can do whatever task you throw at it; Dragonfly is small, light, sharp but not enough blade to handle bigger task. Don't get me wrong, I love my white dragonfly, but it's not my EDC

I agree :D I have both the D Fly and Tenacious,I just ordered the Raven.
The Raven will most likely do a fine job, just as the Tenacious does.
Either knife will serve you well.

The D-fly is not a big knife but it is not tiny.
It has two inches of very sharp edge.
Maybe not big enough for big work but it does all the rest with ease.

If you are looking for Byrds, why not the Meadowlark?
Three inch, 50/50 choil, backlock, only not the flat grind.

thanks, guys. it looks like i'll just have to get both (or maybe all three.) :D

i just ordered a white Dragonfly. :)

I think you'll like it. The Dragonfly can handle jobs a lot bigger than what you would think by looking at it.

Do check the specs, they are quite different all appearances aside. Both are great knives but I'd pick the Tenacious.

The Dragonfly makes a great little work knife for me. It's nice and light, cuts cardboard and plastic straps with no trouble, and holds an edge reasonably well. Mine is the AUS-8 FRN handled version. Yours will be VG-10 which will be even better. When I use the choil I can get almost a full 4 fingered grip on the knife which is nice, but I tend to just use the handle and a 3 finger grip for most tasks. The only thing that I run into on a regular basis that slows it down is the heavy duty triple wall cardboard that some of our cartons are made of. It can handle it but it's a little tough for it.

If you like your Dragonfly, you may want to check out the Native eventually. It's not flat ground but but it has a lot in common with the Dragonfly. . . Light weight, 50/50 choil, FRN handle, low price point. It's a great knife.

Good luck, and have fun with your new knife!

I've been very impressed with my Tenacious thus far... Haven't thrown any 'big work' at it, but put a nicely polished up edge on there and shaved all the side lugs off a rear Bontrager Jones XR 29er mountain bike tire to fit in a hybrid frame. Won't go into fit and finish or quality for price point since its been covered so many times.

Only thing, I need to use it and sharpen it more or something because I do *NOT* like EDC'ing a 3.125" blade. Its not technically illegal, but could cause problems... Only reason the Native still sees most of my pocket time (its been sharpened down to 3" over time).

I love my Dragonfly. The more I use it, the more amazed I am at its design. The Tenacious is a great knife at a great price. I just can't stand liner locks. Just my personal preference. Apart from that, it's the best deal going in G10.

The difference in size and beefiness should be the decisive factor.
Both of them provide a good grip that is close to the edge, and while I'm a choil lover (I'm a big fan of the Calypso Jr/Caly III/UKPK family, and I hate the grip of my Delica), I love the Tenacious' grip, it just fits your hand like a glove, like the Mule Team knife.

I think it's a good thing to choose in function of what you're gonna do with the knife.

I would have chosen the Dragonfly too :) You can do more with the Tenacious, but the liner-lock isn't my favorite either.
