Dragonfly spyderco model????

Ohhhhh yea one other thing!!!! Its driving me crazy, i just got a delica 4 and i saw this video on youtube and im wondering how he is closing it like this and if it can be done with the delica4. i think that it has something to do with the size. I can close it one handed, but not with my finger like in the video.

Heres the vide link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Av3HkTY7rLU

I have one like it !
IIRC it was made around 1994-1996 then the blade shape & steel changed.
I stand to be corrected tho .
regards,Rick.

also does anyone know when they made the dragonfly in vg-10 versus the ats-55.
I noticed some of the newer models contain the spyder symbol on the balde, and some dont???

I just asked a gang load of questions.....sorry

The switch to VG-10 has come just recently (in the last two or three months I believe), I guess they finally ran out of ATS-55. The Spyder bug on the blade has been there for at least a couple of years, my FRN D'fly has it.

On a side note, the person in that video must have tiny hands, that Dragonfly in his hand looks like my Delica does in mine. And no, I can't release the lock with my finger like he does in the video, at least not on the D4 (I can on my old AUS8 Delica). It has more to do with lock bar tension than size.

I posted that video, its kinda cool to see someones already watched it. ;)

There's soooo many different ways to close a lock-back that has a choil. Remember, the Dragonfly has a large choil, while the Delica just has a small swidge, or kick. (Not sure what its called) So you have to be careful not to flick the blade onto your finger.

EDIT: Yes, yablanowitz, I have very small hands. Pretty much any knife larger the a Delica doesn't work. I bought a D'allara, and my hands make it look like a machete. Luckily, they might still grow a bit, as I'm only 15.

I guess I gotta post something on topic....

I really like the Dragonfly, and should see if I could get a old-style Dragonfly.

Cool what a qawinkedink ur on this site.
I see alot of dragonflys with no spyder symbol on the blade??? maybe its just the pictures from the websites??? i thought it might mean a change in the desingn, guess not. Alot of them that i look at on different sites are not pictured with the cool spyder. I really like the little booger. I think im becoming a spyder head!!!!! oh yea darthsoaker what model dragon is it???

Websights are slow to update photos on items based on small cosmetic changes such as spyders on blades. If you become a spyder head, perhaps you will start a collection based on pre and post spyder blades...who knows?

Mine? Mines a typical AUS-8 with the Spyderco logo.

I wasn't trying to give you any grief, I know my hands are a bit larger than average ;) As in, my handspan is greater than the open length of the Military, and my thumbs are longer than the handle of the Dragonfly. There is no way on Earth I could manipulate that little knife like you can :o

I do suppose that being able to suscessfully wield a smaller knife might be an advantage in the *slightly* sheeple infested country that I live in, but still you guys with larger hands get all the (really) good toys. Like the CPM-D2 foliage Military. :grumpy:

A small hand can always fit on a big knife, but a big hand cannot always fit on a small knife.

:o

:o

Even if the small handed person has to use it like Conan's two-handed sword. :D

By Crom I have fairly small hands. :p
