it took me long enough to notice. i just assumed it was the ats-55 with the etch added. i'm a fool.

the navigator 2 is in danger of being deposed as my favorite little big knife.

how come i haven't seen the forum explode with praise yet? a thin leaf of flat ground vg-10, isn't that why we love spyderco so?

Perhaps because a lot of people haven't noticed yet? The change to VG-10 was one of Sal's little unannounced upgrades that he just throws out there whether anyone notices or not. I suspect he finally ran out of ATS-55. ;)

For the first time, I am considering buying a stainless D'fly, just to dismantle for the parts. I think it will look great in black Micarta, maybe with the handle reshaped to look like a Micro Calypso :D

umm...can you do that twice?

i'd actually be thrilled by FRN with nested liners and hex bits.

I buck that trend when possible. I have three Dragonflies, all FRN. I love the light weight molded handle, and pinned construction doesn't bother me a bit. I think steel liners on a knife this small are a waste of time. If I do rehandle one in Micarta, I'll probably have to screw it back together, unless my pinning skill has improved without practice over the years.

hey Magnum22, I believe the etched Dflys are VG-10 but I'm not sure if the non-etched SS Dflys have been "upgraded" from ATS-55 to VG-10 yet...
as for why the SS Navigator2 hasn't been more popular amongst forumites... maybe its b/c there are too many flavors to choose from at one time or maybe it's b/c the Zdp189 Calypso Jr. "stole" the limelight ...

Just as long as you promise to post pix Yab...

I bought a Dragonfly a little over a year and a half ago and love it. It dones just about every thing I need in a knife. I would love to see this in G10. I just recently bought an etched Dragonfly and like it but it is a little tight on opening. And i hope it will get easier. This knife does not receive the praise it deserves.

the navigator2 was a bit of work to open when new too. give it some pocket time, it'll smooth out.

Thanks Magnum22. I really like the etched Dragonfly and did not want to send in to be worked on. I will just give it some time and work some lube on it.

Tricord, that would be great. Funny, how long it took me before I got one of these Dragonfly folders. First was a FRN and now the etched one. I like these knives because you can clip them to your waist band and no one knows you are carrying a knife. I sometimes carry the FRN clipped to my shirt pocket. This may be my favorite knife.

Tricod over on the Spyderco forums can do a custom one for you if you like. I got one from him (AUS-6 due to a lack of availability of a SE VG10 blade at SFO) and love it. The Dragonfly thread no longer has pics up by you can see a sample of his work on a Navigator here.

No affiliation, just a happy customer :) I can post pics of my Dragonfly if you like.

Thanks Bma for the info. I saw the photo of your navigator. The gentleman did a fine job on it. I may need to contact him. Thanks.

Is the FRN available with vg-10

if so anyone have pics

As far as I know, all the FRN D'flies are AUS8. At least all of mine are, and the last one was made about a month ago if I'm reading the date code right.
