When did the blade shape change from the original dragonfly to what it is now. And why was it changed?
any info appreciated.

Best I can do on the timeframe is somewhere between its introduction in 1994 and 1997, since I do not have 1995 or 96 catalogs. The '94 catalog shows the original style, the '97 shows the current shape. However, in the "Across the Years" section of the '98 catalog, it notes that the Dragonfly was modified in '96, so that would be a fairly probable date for the change. The orginal version is certainly less common than the new.

As to the why, would imagine only Sal could answer that one.

For those unfamiliar with the older version, these photos show the differences between the first generation and a more recent one. Note the changes, not only to the blade, but to the clip side of the handle as well.

They do raise another interesting question though. While I am sure the David Boye Dent is a more recent addition, I do wonder if the change to the clip side of the handle occurred at the same time as the changes to the blade, or whether there is, in effect, a "middle generation" of knives with the new style blade and old style handle. Hard to be sure, the 1997 catalog does show the new style handle, but that alone is not proof that an intermediate version does not exist.
