Dragonfly's...How many & what flavor

Love the Dragonfly, probably the best small knife design ever. I have all of them, I think. I have to get an updated group shot with the Hap40 and some other recent duplicates, but here's most of them.

I've had a lot over the years. My most used and carried one was the original with integral clip that I picked up at a gun show in the mid 90's. It was my farming knife for several summers, and it really opened my eyes to the benefits of a serrated edge!

RamZar, Thanks much for telling us about each of the knives in shipwright's collection.

That must have taken some time!:thumbup:

Actually, I didn't match up each of shipwright's 24 DragonFly knives against the 24 in SpydieWiki. The numbers matched up so I'm purely guessing they are the same 24 in each list. The SpydieWiki list is chronological.

I did use that list for guidance when tracking them all down. There's also one that's not on the list. The original shape dragonfly with an AUS-8a blade is a pretty rare one (third down on the left). I've since added more pe/se variations of some more models, along with the new Hap40. My first and most used is the all stainless serrated Ats-55 model, that started my entire interest in knives.

I only have one, the purple sprint, and I stopped carrying it a while ago to let it live in a retirement knife case :)

I've almost grabbed a G10 a couple of times, but would really like some feedback from folks who carry both the G10 and FRN models. Is the increased weight that noticeable? 1.3 ounces vs. 2 ounces seems significant but I've never had a chance to handle a G10...

So, with that rare one you mentioned that should make 25 models? Perhaps you should let someone at SpydieWiki know about the missing model.

What's the deal with that G-10 wharncliffe-ish Dfly? I never heard of/saw that one before.

I've seen his pic before..
My thoughts: reprofiled the blade and took the belly out..

Sweet looking blade, either way! Reminds me of the wharnie Urban, blade shape.

I'm also digging the other reprofile! (Posted by harronek) The "micro PM2"..

The wharnie is a mod job I did to a g10 model. Reground the edge straight and acid etched everything.

My favorite is probably the serrated carbon fiber model, it's super light with just the single liner. The Superblue is a close second.

I have only two, a standard VG10 and ZDP...which serve me well enough that I don't plan on acquiring more. I have talked both my sisters into DFlys of their own too, a PE H1 and the purple sprint. And, I'll continue to recommend it to pretty much everyone as a first, small EDC. Great blade. Magnificent how Sal made such a small knife feel right at home in most hand sizes, including my XLs.

I hesitated on the G10, too, wondering if it would ruin what makes the Dfly so great--its thinness and lightness and simplicity.

I got one a few months ago and love it--I don't notice the extra thickness or weight. It feels a little more solid to me and it's a more of a bigger-feeling LBK. The liners give it a different look too.

I'm not sure it's worth the cost difference, but I was surprised at how much I liked the G10 after years of loving the FRN.

Just one, G-10 handle. Love the way the G-10 feels, a bit more solid and fit and finish seems a bit tighter. I would love to find a Nishijin.

Ive got 2, the purple sprint run and a HAP40. Love them both and use them both but not a lot, Id really like to get the G10 version to use more often.
