A large part of this business is choosing the right wood to sell. The key question I ask myself is "Will this sell?". Dream Burls prides itself on finding new and different species that give my buyers something out of the ordinary to consider. In trying new things you rely on sense of aesthetic and anticipating what will look good as a handle. Sometimes you hit it right on the head, sometimes you get hit on the head.
When I first saw these pieces of quarter sawn Wenge I was sure they'd make great handles and sell like hotcakes. I still think they'll make great handles, but they sure didn't sell like hotcakes. So, I've drastically reduced the original prices, some by 67%, and added some more blanks, all at the new low, low price of $15. Hotcakes anyone?
