I'd opened it a few times before the ping & the bit of spring flying off. Not picked up in the (poor) images is a tiny slightly darker part on one inner corner of the break, a tiny crack maybe, who knows.
Anyway, it's a first broken spring for me & I think I'll make a new one just for the doing of it, I have some O1 steel flat in 2mm same as the spring thickness so that should suffice.

Ouch! :( I gifted a Joker, like the one below, to another Yorkshire member. The spring broke, so I contacted the company. I received a very nice email from the Head Honcho, and he sent out a replacement knife right away, without my needing to return the original knife. Really great service

Horrible surprise. Don't want that happening to mine as I understand they're no longer made? Unlike you, I don't have the skill to fashion a new spring either. My one has, I recall, a stainless backspring but carbon blade.

Happened to a CASE Med Stockman of mine in August, only had it a few months too. However, CASE did an excellent job of fixing it up and sending it back to me in Europe in good time. Kind of ironic mind, you can no longer have CASE knives shipped outside the USA by dealers but they do still stand by their guarantee 100%.

And now fixed up and in action again. My extreme thanks to paulhilborn paulhilborn for the fine American coins.

My first was with a Belgian Navy Clasp Knife. These knives were made in the early 50's, by a number of Belgian manufacturers, and thousands were never issued, just packed in grease. I'd had this one about a week, when the spring popped.

A couple of years later, I was about to ship this Richards British Army Clasp Knife, from 1944, off to Charlie waynorth waynorth , when the spring pinged :(

The most common knives I've seen broken springs on are British Army 'Burma Knives', where it seems to be a serious problem across manufacturers. I check these over extra carefully before purchase

Never a good sound to hear! Please show pictures of the repair, most of us don’t have the skill to fix this ourselves.

Will Power Will Power ..Will I think that nasty little regulation has been done away with...I had a jigged buffalo horn sowbelly sent to me a few months ago...non bf dealer so I wont mention its name.
I just looked in my garden and there is a pile of firewood...timber that is not alive.
Cheers.

1944 - my birth year!! Sorry it broke on your watch, Jack!! :( It's the thought that counts!! ;)
Thanks for all the other knives and para you've sent over the years!!

Queen's just a whipping boy. I like old beat knives plus parts knives and have seen broken springs from many brands but only one from Queen.
I have owned many Schrades - still do - Wabi Sabi 1.jpg but this one (curved stamp, pre-1917) was the only one wth a broken spring!!
I bought it for parts, and Rhidian replaced the spring for me a few years later!!
I carry it all over - great knife!! Like-new snap, on both blades!!
