I know we all love our SAK's, and they sure are useful, but they can't put everything on there....

So, if you had your way, what tool would be on your SAK? Personally, I'd like a drum key option, cause I always seem to forget mine when I need it. Although a laser would be cool, too...:D

(Feel free to be totally ridiculous if you feel like it...I mean, we can dream, right?)

I want just one feature - Carmen Electra :D :D :D

OR :

93 mm ALOX
-scales like the ones on the old Soldier model
-blade from Buck's 420HC
-wood saw
-bottle opener
-can opener
-awl
-scissors
-no key ring,hollow rivet

I wish my farmer model had a tweezers and a pair of sissors. other than that I reallys like it.

I would marry a SAK with a Buck 110 and start with 5 inches closed, rosewood scales and brass bolsters. Turn the Buck clip point blade into a locking drop point 3-7/8", add a locking wood saw also 3-7/8". A fire steel and a honing rod instead of the tweezers and toothpick. Keep the corkscrew, its useful to pull PJ balls from a container. Keep the small blade for detailed work. Can opener works great to open boxes, so keep that. Keep the bottle opener for use as a mini pry bar. Keep the scissors as they are great nail trimmers. Make the small screwdriver that fits into the corkscrew even finer to work on the screws on glasses. Drill a hole in the scales back of the corkscrew for a needle. Definitely keep the mystery hook as they are fun to talk about.

Oh yeah, add an arrow puller, a fletching jig and a butane torch so I can use it to build and pull arrows. (I really am dreaming here!)

Fun post, thanks.

The starting point will be a standard Victorinox Hunter (mine, since 1992) with the following modifications:

  • G10 slabs, high visibility, with texture for thumb and fore finger
  • Standard locking blade replaced by combination, one handed blade per the Trekker model
  • Bit Driver in place of the Corkscrew
  • 20mm Thermometer in port side slab
  • Pen in place of tweezers (longer channel in slab)

The small serrated blade needs to be replaced, and I am still searching for a good option.

A sheath will be essential, and shall include: a fresnal lens, mini fire steel, full size tweezers w slide lock, small flat file, button compass, and whistle.

One day, I'll contact the well known tinkerers who have a reputation for these modifications, and have this done.

I couldn't agree more. I can't believe this isn't available. I think this would be the perfect SAK.

I think the Farmer's size is about as big as I want to carry. I would really like a nice pair of scissors. I guess you would have to ditch the can and bottle openers to make room for the scissors. Those devices may be good for general use but I don't see them necessary for survival/woods work.

I'd like an alox version of the Rucksack style using strictly the tools on a Farmer model.

I've been there so many times with SAK and multi-tool wishes.

The easy way out is to just carry an SAK Classic; cures the tweezers/toothpick/scissor problem and a little redundancy too. I EDC one with my PSK keyring with whistle, compass, firesteel and LED micro-light.

I want a plain-edge one-hand Trekker with scissors and Stayglow scales. If the blade can be heavier and better steel, so much the better.

I have scales on order with Swiss Bianco-- one step closer :)

IMHO, SAK can swap out the keyring/lanyard fitting for a bail type lanyard mount, particularly on the 111mm frame knives.

Locking blades on the 91mm frames would be welcome. Wengner has pulled that off nicely.

Or add scissors and a saw to the Leatherman Skeletool CX. [[[[[drool]]]]]

I would like the fold out carabiner clip that Wenger has on a few models to be included on my Farmers. I'm always worried they'll slip out of my pocket when sitting down crawling in and out of a tent. Clipped to my backpack where I can see it and get it quickly would be boss.

I love the Farmer. A ferro-rod for fire starting would be nice - have it pull out from one end - with a piece of the Alox handle attached. It could be just an eighth of an inch diameter. Scissors are nice, too.

A fire starter seems like a natural - long before an altimeter or a 1 GB USB memory would be, in my book.

I'd have to go with a Vic farmer without the lanyard.
-A hollow pin like the Wenger SI but larger. Something that paracord without the inner strands would fit through.
-A removable scale with a diamond sharpener on the inside. or a thin round sharpener that fits under a scale like the tooth pick.
-A small pair of pliers for fish hook removal, with a wire cutter/fishing line cutter (like the Leatherman Squirt).
- Opposite the pliers, another blade but smaller. Maybe a 1.5" sheepsfoot.

Here ya go:

Seriously though, a good saw blade, that spike for naval knots, a 3.5" blade, medium flathead, and I'm pretty good with the SAK. Though I would like to see a more helpful LED in the scales, like a white light. The red one on my Midnite Mgr isn't very good.

In the SAK store in Soho, they have an older mountaineering model, early 1900's or so. It was pretty beefy.

I would love my fieldmaster with the same blade shape only a thicker blade and bone scales and all around more bomb proof.

There's a guy in the multitool subforum called "scibeer" who mods SAKs and has made Farmers with scissors for a number of people. I looked into having one made once, and his rates were pretty good - even better if you are sending donor SAKs.

My dream tool is a Victorinox Spirit multitool with a conventional knife blade and conventional SAK scissors.

The rangers from wenger are my dream saks, but if I had to customize one.....

OD Green Hard plastic handle with the egro grooves and black rubber inserts

Saw blade,

154cm Blade,

File,

Pliers,

Fire steel striker,

Gut hook,

Scissors,

Philips screw driver, wenger can opener,

lanyard hole big enough for paracord,

And a diamond rod that can be removed.

These are out there! Not available in the US yet but Europe has em. I've seen at least one site that you can order from but its from over seas and it's pretty pricey. I'm waiting for them to come stateside myself.
