Dream SAK

What the heck, why don't they make a modular multi-tool so you can dial in your own selection of tools? Screwed-on scales and removable axis points and maybe some sort of assembly jig if it requires working with a pre-loaded spring. Maybe a main frame with a tool steel locking blade (serrated, plain, maybe a couple point styles) and then you add the rest. Someone like Buck or Leatherman who has the tooling could go crazy with a system like that. Could you imagine the customized scales and other widgets people would cook up? LED scales, whistle scales, firesteel scales, flip open scales with storage or a signal mirror.... where is that business card that patent attorney gave me? :D

Victorinox Locksmith with ZDP189 blade and a DMT fine diamond sharpener instead of the file. That would be the perfect companion to a large fixed blade in my eyes. The file can put a usable edge on a knife, but the DMT would put a much nicer one on it.

well, there are SOG tools that are customizable with all of the tools available by themselves. The "load your own" was tried by gerber fro a while, but it didn't catch on much. but for a SAK type thing, set screws would be a PITA

Farmer with polished steel liners like they use for locking models. The farmer is pretty much perfect for me, but improved durability would be great. Steel upgrade is optional as far as I'm concerned, but would be rather fun. Maybe 154cm? :D

I have spent a LOT of time on the quest for the perfect Swiss Army Knife for me. For better part of 10 years I carried a Yoeman, and was pretty happy with it overall (I run IT for the agency that I work for, so I use the scissors, mag glass and inline phillips a lot).

Currently I am thinking about having a custom Hunter done adding the scissors and small phillips of an Outrider and replacing the corkscrew with a large spine mounted phillips for night / weekend carry.

Scibeer (aka Bill Evans ) to build me up several customs so far. Here's pics of the evolution that I went through:

Originally I thought that a One Hand Trekker with scissors and a corkscrew would be perfect. It gets to be a bit of a chunk to sit on all day long at a desk, and I don't want to wear a pouch on my belt, so it doesn't get carried much on a daily basis anymore.

There was a time when I was doing a lot of hardware work on the computers at work so I had my Super Scibeertool made up. About 7 knives donated parts to this one.

Then I decided that was too big to carry in my pocket all the time and had him make me a 84mm Drunken Lumberjack.

Then I decided that was too small and limited. I really wanted a metal file, scissors and inline screwdriver, so I had him build me an Abrasive Yo-Man. I have carried this knife everyday for about 14 months now. It is almost perfect for what I do. I really don't need the wood saw for EDC, but it adds so little bulk it isn't hurting anything and it has actually proven very useful for cutting sheetrock.

I had him make me a Farmer with a small blade and scissors instead of a saw. I like it, but find that I don't carry it as much as I had thought that I would. It isn't that much smaller than the Ab-YoMan to be worth giving up the extra tools.

I had him build a custom Farmer for a friend of mine with a small blade (from a Pioneer Settler) instead of the awl and a pocket clip. He carries it religiously.

He made this one up for me with the leftover parts from the Farmer and Pioneer Settler. Very sturdy, slim little knife. Should have kept it.

Since I couldn't find an original one at a reasonable price, I had him make me a Scientist. I carry this one a lot when I am in jeans or dress pants (rarely these days). Might get another one made up at some point with the long file added into it.

The Electrician Plus with a clip is a very handy knife. This one rode in my Fatboy for a while, then rotated out to a yard knife, and now is under consideration to be reborn with a mag/phillips layer and a long file added to it.

If I could bend the will of the SAK-Gods, I would have them make:

58mm - an Alox Rambler

74mm - an Alox Executive with a 58mm caplifter / phillips (from the Rambler) in place of the Orange Peeler

84mm - a 84mm Yoeman

110mm - a liner lock Hunter with Alox scales

RevolverGeek,
Those are great and got me wanting my perfect SAK.
I emailed Bill S about modifying my Wegner Mountaineer - exchanging the bottle opener for a small blade - he doesn't work on Wegner's.

If I wanted to exchange the bottle opener on a Vic Outrider - do you have an idea what that would cost - excluding the cost of the knife?

dont you guys think it would be easier to carry acouple of the saks, then you have the blades you want and if you get tired of them just change to anotheer type of sak.

OHT PE add to it: fish scaler, second PE blade, pliers, magnifying glass & scissors w/belt sheath, almost perfect fishing companion for me

I know you all have your favorite forums, but the forums here are supposed t be built around function, so ... off to Mult-tools & Multi-purpose Knives from W&SS.

I would love a Yeoman, but with a nail file (like the Cadet) instead of a small blade. Right now I'm carrying a Super Tinker with plus scales, which has almost all the same features, but with the phillips head in the back, no cork screw, and no magnifying glass. The Yeoman would be an incredible thing to have - all the tools I use (drivers, scissors, and blade), and with a file, would be perfect, as I don't usually differentiate between the use of the two blades, and sometimes could use a nail file-type thingy...

Yeoman does not have a small blade, it has a combo-tool in its place. Replacing it with a nail file may not be the best idea. You'd probably be better off with a modified Explorer.

You're right...sorry...I'm a bit medicated for allergies right now and overlooked the fact that the largest reason I like the Yeoman's design is because of the fact that it DOES NOT have the small blade, and instead uses that spot for something I would make use of.

I just wish it was still made, or that I could find one.

Mine would have changable blades/tools so I could choose exactly what to cary each day.

I check there every once in a while. So far, availability of a Yeoman and the funds for me to buy a Yeoman have not coincided.

Sheepsfoot blade, driver/bottle, driver/can. I achieve this with a little grinding on the spearblade of soldier or cadet. A pair of scissors would be great too, but just a dream.
