If you could have any blade shape on a sodbuster frame, what would it be?

I'm thinking sheepsfoot, drop point, or ??

What are your ideas?

I want it, but just haven't gotten around to it yet...

I dunno, the sodbuster is very strongly associated with its straight backed blade. I wouldn't want to tinker and slap a sheepsfoot or such on it, that would look too weird.

I do like the blade shape Kerry Hampton uses on his KHnutbuster. The swedging adds aesthetic appeal, but the blade is still identifiably sodbuster.

Maybe a nice spear point! (Like the GEC's Farm and Field series)

A yatagan style clip point blade, similar to the one in the French Basque Yatagan knives (e.g. from Fontenille Pataud). The Opinel version is not so elegant IMHO.

Jason,

Didn't that one have brown bone covers? Or do you have two Zulu KHnuts?

It did indeed. The original covers started to develop some issues and Kerry was kind enough to replace them for me.

This is a really interesting thread. I think many agree, the sodbuster is perfect! I wouldn't want it any other way. I think it's current blade shape is perfect myself!

That explains it. I remember your knife because you and I got our KHnutbusters around the same time.

For a work knife, I think the blade shape on the Boker Plus Rangebuster is hard to beat: mostly sodbuster, with a bit of a dropped point. Getting used to the blade on the Case is taking some time.

The drop point is perfectly serviceable, but I do like the looks of that F&F Sheepsfoot. I think I'd like to try one, but really the 3138 Case, and it's blade profile is well suited for most tasks IMHO. A lot of old timers in this neck of the woods tote, old well worn, Case, and Eye Brand Sodbusters, with skinnier than usual blades, with less belly, due to the many sharpenings they've dished out. A different blade profile nonetheless.

I'm fond of the blade shape on a Queen Country Cousin, a bit pointier than that on a Case Sod Buster or GEC. I think I'd like it even more if it were a tad longer.
