I love fighting knives! Immensely!! from dags to bowies. My beautiful Nihontos and those so called American tanto's (It's actualy a really old style of Japanese blade)

However... I find little that I like in the "already made" customs...

They always lack something... and there is a plethora of makers... both good and awesome...

Here's where you makers come in... I need a Christmas prezzie for myself.

I love the EK daggers! but I Hate Stainless steel with a passion.
Could someone cut out grind and cryo one made of 3v? to the exact dimensions... I have all the hardware from my other ek's

or possibly

A beautiful bowie... Massive re curved blade great reinforced tip for all the cardboard stabbing it may encounter... maybe a nice hamon... I have some images of it but That would be an expensive piece... next Christmas maybe...

It's probably that you're asking for a specific, existing knife. Some guys don't want to make something someone else designed/produced.

If you were just asking for a knife similar to a "____" you'd probably have plenty of offers.

I myself can't cyro blades, and probably wouldn't be up to the challenge of making a knife to fit some existing hardware.

As well, finish filling out your profile and you may get some personal emails, rather than doing business right here in a public venue.

no one man enough to take my money and produce a blade?

You won't win any hearts and minds with that kind of statement here.
Your studies in Japanese blades has not imparted any skills of grace upon you.
As a student, you should acquire some skills in addressing your teachers.

I suspect you don't mean "nihonto" either, but rather "Japanese style". Nihonto is a very specific group of makers.( The term is badly abused by the internet sellers of import swords)

Some of the best makers around can be found on this forum, but few will be willing to make a copy blade for an ebay knife to fit the original fittings.
Ask for a custom Ek style knife, and you may find a maker. I believe Haslinger, in Canada, makes an excellent custom Ek style dagger.

Thanks a lot Stacy!
I'll check that out. But I prefer to support the smaller guys.

also I do mean nihonto! I may lack class on the net, but I do collect them(2 so far). Also a few gunto blades.

Truth be told, I Really want a beautiful re-curve bowie similar to the one on counter stike heh.... or just something in 3v(my fav. steel).

I'll finish my lookup after class..... ECON 331 mathematical optimization.

I'd be more than happy to make a big ol recurve bowie, and I'm sure so would a hundred much better qualified makers here on the forums. However, I think your approach needs some finnesse.

I don't think you lack class, but you do come off with a bit (not a lot, but noticeable) of an air of having your mind made up to such a degree that even stone cold facts couldn't change it.

I don't see many people working with 3V, at least not in the forging crowd. I have doubts about the forging process (as in hammer and anvil) would be very conducive to getting this type of steel to do what it does best. It would seem to me better suited to stock removal.

Likewise, the heat treat asks for some pretty out there temps, holding times, and four digit tempering temps. Most small shops aren't set up for this type of stuff. Sure there's several that are, but they aren't in the majority by any stretch.

A great tip I was once given; find a maker who's work really speaks to you, then commission that maker (if available) to make a knife to a description as loose or as tight as you can agree on. Tell the maker what you intend to do with it, and let him use his own choice of steel. You will invariably get a better knife from a maker working with a steel he is very familiar with than from talking him into using something he may have very limited experience with.

oh the bowie couldn't be made of 3v. LOL not only would that could a million bucks it would be damn hard to find someone up to that kind of challenge. I was thinking forged l6 or something that can take and keep and razor edge and a slight pounding (remember this isn't a utility bowie this is a flesh slicer and bone cutter) Something exceptional for Tameshigiri (haha). also "d love to take part n making it I'd love to get something somewhat ruff then I'd love to polish and then get someone to put a slight convex on it... I have Ideas ;)

There are several folks that do work with 3V for large knives and I think it would take a better beating than L6. Keep in mind also that L6 is harder to come by these days. I agree with the advice above, find a maker that you like and contact them to work out the details. If you want something to beat around with then you might be better off looking for just unfinished blades.

Just hang around and read for a while, see what folks around here do and then move forward.

I would suggest looking threw the Gallery here. Find a maker whos work you like and contact them. You will get a better response and also a trust in the maker to give suggestions on the type of steel that will give you the performance you desire.
AcridSaint is an excellent maker, perhaps a one on one with him threw E-mail would be a good idea. Good luck on your search.

Thanks for the kind words Andy. I have to say that I was mostly joking about the taking money bit. Bowie knives aren't really an area that I concentrate on, so I wouldn't recommend myself for this sort of project ;)

As a side note, Andy is also an excellent maker and I've seen some bowie work from him. I'd be proud to own one of his knives.

how about a 3v dagg? something with a minor wasped blade reinforced tip with a slight convex? Something fast and tough enough to be hammered into a log :) I need something made just don't know what

I have some 3V that i have been playing with. I can heat treat it in the furnace at work and i have a cryo set up. I have been wanting to try forging down some 3V into a larger blade. I also have a ton of L6 if that fits your fancy. Email me and we can chat. I dont copy others work but will use ideas and be creative.
