:eek::eek::eek:

Finally did it, just had to try it. Think it will work out well for my use, but the new look will take some getting used to, haha...

Looks good to me, Inky! How long did it take, and how did you do it/with which parts?

Thanks guys, here's a detail of the new pommel:

Aias,

I put the blade in a vise and used a dremel with a fresh cut off wheel to lop off the talon. Then I shaped the tang and scales on my 1x30" with a coarse 36 grit belt (running wet) to clean it up and mellow the angle of the rear swell. The last step was to do some finish sanding by hand, spent around 5 minutes with small wet squares of 100 and 320 grit paper. Total time was ~30.

I love making blades "mine" -- or in this case seeing you make this one "yours"...

I'd say the mods are to the knife's betterment for usage and it looks more practical, IMHO.

I was hesitant to open the thread for fear of seeing fingers laying on your shop floor!:eek::eek:

Glad that wasn't the case! Have a great weekend! :)

Got me as well, also wondering how many people where clicking here to see a missing finger when they read "dremel accident" ? Nice work, and the skull cracker on the end tops it off.

Pics of the finger next plz lol? :D Very very cool!

 You did it! ... I've not seen anyone post it or speak of it, but after handling mine, I seriously thought about that- So now I know what it would look like, and naked too! And all in with the scales- So how do you like the feel in the hand now? So far I've only used it with gloves because of that back talon, it just hits me wrong. I was thinking of leaving more of a bump there maybe.... got to study this a bit! I love the ballz to hack on it! It's inspiring.

Wqs also expecting to see jacked up blade or hand, but that turned out great! Used a dremel on a mofo today not to long ago jjst to get paint off. I really gotta buy more/better bits.

I tried a lot: gloves, then rouding the talons diy nuclear meltdown style, then tried a paracord d-guard inside the talons... None made my pinky comfortable in any hard chopping. I finally just took the plunge.

I always loved the shape and feel of the handle (and the whole blade, it really feels awesome in hand,) especially after hand-sanding the scales. The rear talon just kept hurting me. Feels pretty much the same now in hand, but I just did the mod today and haven't used it yet. I think it's going to be perfect though.

To borrow someone else's line, I think the original form makes a more cohesive artistic statement, but like Petey2.1 said and you were thinking, this mod seems more practical for me.

Your thread title had me thinking, "This is gonna be good!" Like, you know, that guilty satisfaction of watching destruction.

But this was better. Nice.

Thanks Nate--great work man! I thought about buying it when it came out and doing away with the talons, but was not sure I could pull it off. I've got the dremel and parts, and the rest to finish the job... probably should have done it. Love the way yours turned out. If you have a chance to weigh it, can you tell me where it's at after your mods?

Glad to hear your thumb healed up as well--I remember that thread.

Anthony

I like how you took that porker by the tusk and chewed off her pinky biter.
