Dremel accident... (DTBM mod)

...Love the way yours turned out. If you have a chance to weigh it, can you tell me where it's at after your mods?

Thanks. I don't have a great scale for stuff in this range, but based on my old analog kitchen scale it appears to be between 23 and 24 oz.

Thought I had noted the stock weight somewhere, but can't find it atm...

(Also, added a before pic in post #6.)

Would like to know how comfortable it is now when chopping without gloves after your mod?

M mick HT

Hope to get some time in with it this weekend whenever it stops raining.

(Remnants of Harvey moving through, I don't have any room to complain though.)

How did you get on chap?

I think the mod is excellent. Chopped up some branches I trimmed a few weeks ago and hadn't dealt with yet. Not a ton of work, but enough to validate my decision. Hope to use it on some green wood on our acreage tomorrow.

That's excellent to hear, so no pain on the pinky? How was the retention in hand during swinging?

No pain on the pinky M mick HT and no issues with retention. The final curve of the grip came out similar to the Res-C grip pictured above, but you also get the benefit of the additional contouring on the micarta. Even with the handles sanded smooth and no gloves, the grip felt nice and secure to me.

I did get a little hot spot on my palm at the base of my pinky, but that was mainly because I didn't wear gloves at your request. That spot on my hand was a little tender anyway. I got a blister from chopping hard for a couple of hours with the BB13 and BME2 recently. (Desk job hands :()

I did still anticipate the rear talon impact for the first few minutes of work even though it wasn't there anymore, but once that conditioning went away it felt very nice in use.

That is excellent feedback and I'm pleased that the modification has worked out for you, it is always tempting to personalise grips to suit and once it's done there is no going back. This has provided me with confidence to modify the handle on my Battlesaw.

I understand why you might hesitate, that's a significantly more expensive blade if you screw up!!! lol :p

It was relatively easy for me to do this one since I'd already done a bunch of other mods to my DTBM and was "all in" on it as a user/not concerned with resale value. Everything on is 100% functional, but not all of the grinds are perfect, etc...

That's a NICE mod. I think I'm gonna have to do this to mine. I just can't deal with the aft talon at full length...
