Hi

I was wondering if you could help me pick out a knife that would be appropriate for a suit. I like Kershaw Leeks, but I would prefer to avoid carrying assisted knives.

My normal EDC is a Spyderco Tenacious at the moment, but I was looking for something less threatening, and more traditional... with a budget of under $50.

This Boker design has caught my eye, and I was wondering what the community here thought about it, and whether I could get a better (either more stylish, or better made) knife for the price.

Thanks in advance.

It's funny, I carry a Leek with my suit. I was also carrying a Spyderco Cricket for a while - the non serrated one isn't overly threatening, it's small and flat.

Do you want a big, thick blade like that Boker? Lockback?

I tend to lean toward pen knives, Senators, and two-blade Congresses when going for a "dress up" knife. I have a little Boker pen knife with stainless bolsters which is pretty nice. Tiny Toothpicks are also worth looking at.

gnius,
Hi,

This a too open ended question.

What size?
How dressy do you want to be?
How light?
What will you be using if for?
Single blade or multi bladed?

Without these answers the list of knives is almost infinite!

Thanks for your reply.

To answer your questions:
1. I'd like the size to be in the 2"-3" range
2. I'd like it to be both light and thin, so that it doesn't stretch the pockets, deform the cut, or show while being inside the pocket.
3. I'd be using it for pretty generic tasks - papers, maybe some tape, cardboard, etc... I still prefer locking knives, because I think they're safer, but I am willing to try a non-locking blade in a dress knife.
4. I would prefer single bladed,

Also, to further clarify what I am looking for, I'm looking for very classic and natural colors and patterns - which means wood, and polished stainless, nickel or brass. Pearl inlays are nice, but as far as I understand, it is rather unlikely that I will find that kind of a handle on a knife in my price range.

My dress knife or "white collar edc" is a Case peanut in amber bone. It is elegant looking and easy to carry in the pockets of dress pants.

Looks like a CASE Mini Copperlock would fit your bill.Very slim, pocket friendly, old school and has the attraction of being a lockback. A number of handle types are available, but it is 3.5" closed, nevertheless, lightweight and un-obtrusive.You don't know it's there till you need it!

how about a uncle henry 897 for the distuingshed gentleman (that wears cowboy boots of course)

Mini Copperlocks are thin. They ride in the pocket nice too.

Look at a Case Small Texas Toothpick, 3" knife in what ever bone you choose, with a nice amount of nickel to make it shiny in a classic interesting shape. Very light
Well within your price range

They call it a Tiny Toothpick

There are two in wood for a good price

gnius, I have two of those Boker knives that you show. One is a damascus blade and red bone, the other is like the pearl one in your link. They are small enough that you won't feel them in your pocket and won't alarm anyone when you use it. It is a perfect gentlemens knife.

Here is an option - Kershaw's Mini Mojo. It has a built in safety and a positive blade lock. This is one I changed the insert over to dinosaur bone...

I don't like the weight of a pocket knife loose in the bottom of a pocket so I pretty much always carry one with a clip.

What about a swiss knife, nothing you need to survive with. Just one with a knife, and cork screw. Swiss is a house hold name. Nobody will glance twice if you pull one out. And they are small.

I think something with stag or ivory looks good with a suite, and maybe a little damascus. That may be hard to find under 50 bucks though. I sometimes see a stag and damascus Bear Sideliner in stag and damascus on ebay. Thanks, Shane

I wear a suit every day and I very much like the stag Case swell center jack. It's two blades but the size is nice. Right about $50 currently at casexx.com where I got mine.

Case with the color of your choice. I really like that tiny t-pick and it looks like it would open up letters really well. Goes well with the suit and adds class. Get the blue bone!!!!!!!!!!
